A minimum of 4 years of experience focusing on energy regulatory and Renewable Energy work at a law firm or a corporate in-house department (with significant time spent in a law firm environment).Experience with state regulatory proceedings in front of the ICC is ideal.
Our client is seeking an Associate based in Chicago office. This position will work with the firms Energy, Environment and Natural Resources group.
Responsibilities:
Stay updated on Federal and State energy regulations, guidelines and policies;;
Provide legal advice on compliance matters related to energy regulations
Analyze and interpret complex regulatory issues;
Monitor and analyze energy policy developments at state and federal levels;
Advise on compliance with regulations governing retail electric and energy policies;
Draft and review contracts related to retail energy supply;
Conduct legal assessments to make sure compliance is met;
Navigate legal aspects of solar programs;
Provide guidance on regulatory compliance;
Advise of legal aspects of electric vehicle charging station deployment;
Collaborate with other attorneys within the Energy, Environmental and Natural Resources group;
Work closely with clients to determine business goals and legal solutions;
Communicate with clients;
Attend meetings, hearings and negotiations on behalf of clients;
Conduct legal research on energy law and compliance;
Prepare legal documents, reports and memoranda.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Bar in the relevant jurisdiction.
- 4 or more years of experience in energy compliance, preferably with a law firm.
- Experience with the state regulatory proceedings in front of the ICC.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and software.
- Experience with drafting and reviewing legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery materials.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
