Remote Tutor for AP English Language, Literature and Composition

Job Description:

We are seeking a Remote Tutor for Advanced Placement (AP) English Language, Literature, and Composition to provide comprehensive academic support and guidance to students aiming to excel in these rigorous courses. As a tutor, you will work remotely to enhance students' critical reading, analytical writing, and rhetorical skills necessary for success in the AP exams.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct Remote Tutoring sessions via video conferencing or online platforms to provide personalized instruction and support to students enrolled in AP English Language, Literature, and Composition courses.
• Assist students in understanding the requirements and expectations of AP English Language, Literature, and Composition, including close reading of texts, analysis of rhetorical strategies, and synthesis of ideas across multiple sources.
• Guide students through the study of literary works, nonfiction texts, and rhetorical analyses, helping them develop deep comprehension and critical thinking skills.
• Provide instruction on essay writing, including thesis development, textual evidence integration, argumentation, and stylistic analysis, tailored to the requirements of AP exams.
• Offer constructive feedback on students' essays, helping them refine their writing style, structure, and mechanics while encouraging originality and clarity of expression.
• Facilitate discussions on literary themes, motifs, and techniques, as well as rhetorical devices and strategies, to deepen students' understanding of course content and foster engagement with texts.
• Assist students in preparing for the multiple-choice and free-response sections of the AP exams, including practice tests, timed writings, and exam strategies.
• Help students develop effective study habits, time management skills, and exam-taking strategies to maximize their performance on AP exams.
• Stay informed about the latest developments in AP English Language, Literature, and Composition curriculum, exam format, and scoring criteria.
• Communicate regularly with students, parents, and educators to assess progress, address concerns, and provide recommendations for further improvement.
• Collaborate with other tutors and English educators to develop resources, lesson plans, and enrichment activities tailored to the needs of AP English Language, Literature, and Composition students.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, Writing, or a related field. Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) preferred.
• Previous teaching or tutoring experience in English Language, Literature, or Composition, particularly in Advanced Placement or college-level courses, is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of literary analysis, rhetorical analysis, and argumentative writing techniques, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and effectively.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to provide constructive feedback on students' writing and analysis.
• Passion for literature, language, and rhetoric, and a commitment to fostering a love of reading and writing in students.
• Proficiency in using technology for Remote Tutoring, including video conferencing platforms, online collaborative tools, and document sharing software.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
• Flexibility to accommodate students' schedules, including evenings and weekends if necessary.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement as a tutor.

Pay: $18.00 - $28.00 per hour
