Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced tutor to provide Remote Tutoring sessions for students enrolled in AP English Language, Literature, and Composition courses. As a tutor, you will help students develop critical reading and writing skills, analyze literature, and prepare for the AP exams. This position requires a strong command of English language and literature, expertise in academic writing, and a passion for fostering students' analytical thinking and communication abilities.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct Remote Tutoring Sessions: Provide individualized tutoring sessions via online platforms to support students in AP English Language, Literature, and Composition courses.
- Literary Analysis: Guide students in analyzing a variety of literary texts, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama, focusing on themes, characters, plot, and literary devices.
- Writing Instruction: Assist students in developing their writing skills, including thesis development, essay structure, argumentation, evidence integration, and revision techniques.
- Grammar and Language Skills: Review grammar rules, syntax, vocabulary, and rhetorical strategies to help students improve their language proficiency and clarity of expression.
- Prepare for AP Exams: Familiarize students with the format, content, and scoring criteria of the AP English Language and Literature exams, providing practice exercises and exam strategies.
- Literary Theory and Context: Introduce students to literary theory and historical context to deepen their understanding of literary texts and encourage critical thinking.
- Provide Constructive Feedback: Offer detailed feedback on students' essays, literary analyses, and other writing assignments, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.
- Encourage Discussion and Debate: Facilitate engaging discussions on literary works, encouraging students to express their ideas, defend their interpretations, and engage in respectful debate.
- Track Student Progress: Maintain records of tutoring sessions, monitor students' academic progress, and communicate regularly with students and parents/guardians regarding goals and achievements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in English, Literature, Education, or a related field.
- Previous experience teaching or tutoring AP English Language and Literature courses preferred.
- Strong knowledge of English language and literature, including literary analysis, literary theory, and rhetorical devices.
- Expertise in academic writing conventions, grammar, and language mechanics.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
- Proficiency in using online tutoring platforms and technology for remote instruction.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting students' academic growth and success.
