Job description

Remote Sensing Manager

The Remote Sensing Manager will be responsible for overseeing all Remote Sensing projects within the company. Primary duties will include providing technical expertise to stakeholders, generating project cost estimates, creating flight plans, developing and optimizing processing workflows, ensuring project requirements and deadlines are met, and other related tasks. This position will have oversight responsibilities, delegating tasks and leading teams of technicians. This position is considered remote and must adhere to SkySkopes policies on remote/telecommuting work. This position reports directly to the VP of Geospatial Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform airborne and/or mobile GNSS/INS trajectory post-processing
  • Perform relative and absolute adjustments to lidar data (calibration/alignment/registration)
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that may arise during data acquisition or processing
  • Generate data deliverables using various software platforms (ex. point clouds, orthoimagery, DEM’s, contour/planimetric maps, reports, etc.)
  • Develop new workflows and processes based on industry best practices
  • Identify and recommend methods for improving efficiency of current workflows and processes
  • Perform QAQC on deliverables in accordance with applicable standards
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards for first-time client acceptance and on-time final delivery
  • Manage customer data in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Maintain up to date status reporting and tracking on all Remote Sensing projects
  • Provide mentoring to Remote Sensing employees
  • Provide Remote Sensing input and support to stakeholders
  • Support GIS projects and develop workflows for integration of remotely sensed data into GIS environments
  • Perform related duties as needed

Technical Focus

  • Proficient in using GNSS/INS trajectory post-processing software (Inertial Explorer, POSPAC, etc.)
  • Proficient in using point cloud processing software (TerraScan, LP360, etc.)
  • Proficient in using photogrammetry software (Agisoft MetaShape, TerraPhoto, etc.)
  • Proficient in using GIS software platforms (ArcGIS, Global Mapper, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of photogrammetric principles such as aerial triangulation (AT), bundle adjustments, camera calibration, etc.
  • Strong conceptual understanding of sources of error in airborne lidar and imagery datasets and visualizing translation and orientation errors
  • Strong background in airborne LiDAR and imagery acquisition, data management, processing, and quality control
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with industry standards (ASPRS, USGS, etc.) and best practices for geospatial data collection and management
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Geospatial Sciences (GIS, Engineering, Surveying, or related field)
  • 7+ years of experience in a Geospatial related field
  • Previous experience leading teams and managing projects
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • ASPRS Certifications are a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting in a remote setting or office environment
  • Able to work long periods including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to lift, up to 15 lbs.
