The Reliability Engineer has the objective of optimizing the performance of the process plant facilities, in alignment with the site's overall business objectives.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY/RESULTS & ASSOCIATED DUTIES:
Establish role expectations (including KPIs) for direct reports and review performance quarterly.
Establish/implement/maintain a training and development program for the reliability team based on a training needs analysis.
Conduct regular and formal downtime analysis for critical plant equipment - including but not limited to: SAG and ball mills, pumps, and conveyors. Identify, quantify, and implement initiatives that will improve overall equipment reliability and performance.
Coordinate plant equipment improvement trials, including technical input, tracking, and reporting.
Develop the annual reliability & integrity maintenance budget. Manage costs within budget, report cost variance monthly, and provide a forecast quarterly.
Project manage major shutdown activities that are specifically related to critical plant equipment.
Provide supervision of contractors for activities directly related to reliability improvement projects.
Facilitate/lead root cause failure analysis and safety incident investigations as required, using TapRoot or other relevant systematic RCA techniques. Identify and support the implementation of corrective actions that mitigate risk to an acceptable level, ensuring all analyses and activities are appropriately documented.
Provide technical input into Maintenance Procedures, Standards, and Specifications.
Cultivate productive partnerships with key OEMs that drive improvement in equipment performance and reliability.
Produce reliability-based content for the site's monthly operations report and similarly for the quarterly TAC report. Both reports should include metrics such as the cost impact of plant reliability, work management KPIs, etc.
Coordinate/manage the site CM program, providing technical guidance in the areas of OA, VA, MPI/UT, thermography, Scanalyse, etc.
Provide leadership and guidance for the development and review of Maintenance Strategies for all critical plant equipment.
Participate in networking forums for reliability and maintenance within the Company as well as other external organizations - to keep knowledge up-to-date.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL
Bachelor's qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
DESIRABLE
Membership of a Professional Engineering organization
Post-graduate qualification in Asset Management or similar
Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional
Other Skills & Knowledge
ESSENTIAL
MS Office Suite (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Access, MS Project, MS Outlook).
Familiarity with CMMS, and maintenance systems such as SAP, Oracle, JDE, Pronto, Empac, etc.
Proficiency in conducting failure analysis and in the use of root cause investigation techniques.
Financial analysis (NPV, IRR, basic accounting, etc).
DESIRABLE
Condition monitoring practices such as oil analysis, vibration analysis, ultrasonic testing, thermography, etc.
Familiarity with process control and delay accounting systems such as Yokogawa DCS, Pi, and Babelfish.
Knowledge of business improvement methods such as Six Sigma and LEAN as well as a basic understanding of data collection and statistical analysis techniques.
Familiarity with PM optimization tools and techniques including RCM.
