The Relationship Manager is responsible for supporting the Senior Manager and Senior Director of
Annual Giving with the strategic growth of the Food Depository’s Annual Giving program. Managing a
fluctuating pipeline of mid-level donors, the Relationship Manager will work with external vendors and
internal team members to implement strategies and processes related to qualifying, cultivating,
soliciting and stewarding both loyal and prospective donors within and between the Food Depository’s
existing Individual Giving fundraising channels of Direct Response, Mid-Level (which includes
Leadership Annual Giving), and Major Gifts programs. The Relationship Manager will be responsible for
contributing to the Annual Giving team’s annual revenue goal of $34MM+ (in the current fiscal year), as
well as supporting the larger Individual Giving team’s revenue goals. This individual will also support
prospect identification and management processes, portfolio evaluation and moves management
recommendations, and programmatic needs for other members of the development and leadership
team as needed. The Relationship Manager will be an integral member of the Annual Giving team
tasked with collaborating inclusively across departments, upholding the broader Development team’s
core values with dignity and respect, and championing the Food Depository’s Justice, Equity, Diversity
and Inclusion (JEDI) principles to strengthen and expand the Annual Giving program in new ways.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Relationship Management
o Maintain a portfolio of 400+ donors and prospects, engaging in qualification steps and
quality personal contacts to collaboratively advance overall Annual Giving efforts.
o Engage in soliciting, upgrading, and stewarding annual gifts through targeted, donor specific Relationship Action Plans (RAPs) with the goal of establishing a vital and productive mid-level pipeline through strategic interactions.
o Provide an excellent donor experience through quality customer service, active listening,
inclusive language, and thoughtful and persuasive discussion, consistently upholding the
integrity and mission of the Food Depository to invite donors along on the transformative
journey of the organization.
Pipeline Management
o With support of supervisor, team members and external vendors, implement annual moves-management plan, achieving established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to successful qualification, retention and upgrading of Mid-Level donors. Work with supervisor, Prospect Development Manager, Senior Director of Annual Giving, Major Gift Officers, other development colleagues and external vendors to analyze giving trends and outline strategy for cultivating and engaging donors at the Mid-Level and Leadership Annual Giving levels.
o Collaborate with colleagues to strategically identify and qualify/disqualify donors to
ensure placement in the giving channel that best facilitates optimal engagement and
continued support.
•Administrative Support
o Collaborate with Development Operations and Prospect Development colleagues to request reports that will help us analyze the success of our Mid-Leveland Leadership Annual Giving programs.
o Assist in preparing briefing documents as needed for leadership, informing budget forecasts, and supporting decisions around future strategy shifts.
o Update donor records in a timely matter with relevant data including recent actions, contact reports, demographic updates, and other pertinent information.
- Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years’ relationship management experience within a non-profit organization, educational institution, or other fundraising environment.
- Direct experience with qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding existing and prospective mid-level and major donors through one-to-one communications.
- Demonstrated experience in successfully engaging and expanding a robust donor pipeline while supporting the moves-management process.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, and enthusiasm for building positive relationships with donors, volunteers, and colleagues across the Food Depository.
- Passion for using a strengths-based approach to advocating for/communicating about minoritized groups, in order to advance principles of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
- (JEDI) while advancing the mission of the Food Depository for those we serve.
- Adaptable and flexible in fast-paced environment, able to handle several priorities while effectively managing up regarding deliverables.
- Proficiency in MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. Development database experience (Raisers Edge / StratusLive/ NXT experience a plus).
- Exposure: General office environment; limited exposure to warehouse environment. Interacts with GCFD staff, donors, volunteers, and general public. Evening and weekend hours are required as needed. Ability to work remotely as needed.
