The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida’s social services agency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

Northeast Florida State Hospital (NEFSH) is a 613-bed, licensed mental health treatment facility that provides person-centered services to adults suffering from severe and persistent mental illness. The hospital, located in Macclenny, was established in 1959 and is the largest state operated civil treatment facility.

This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as a Rehabilitation Therapist Supervisor – SES at the Northeast Florida State Hospital. This position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented. 

 

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • This position is a highly responsible and independent position assigned to the NEFSH Treatment Mall pilot program which is the hub of all treatment groups and activities essential to the provision of psychiatric services for approximately 150 residents. 
  • For a minimum of five hours daily, all residents and staff assigned to specific living areas, will relocate to the treatment mall for groups and classes.
  • Working supervisor maintains a caseload of 3 classes per day. 
  • Maintains grade books, enters attendance data into the IHP and completes monthly progress notes. 
  • Leads groups for vacant positions and covers groups for staff that are scheduled off.  Prepares work schedules and assignments of subordinates. 
  • Approves time and attendance, daily work records and leave requests. 
  • Sets performance standards, evaluates, and prepares performance evaluations.
  • Compiles, organizes, and analyzes data for services provided by subordinates. 
  • Submits reports, assignments and data on time.
  • To improve adaptive functioning of the individuals we serve, the incumbent actively participates in the treatment process by monitoring person served performance, provides written observation, outcomes and recommendations for future treatment. 
  • Provides documentation to each individuals' Recovery Team. Assists in the escorting and monitoring of the people we serve.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of one of the allied health field disciplines or one of the rehabilitative sciences.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to oversee educational, vocational or REHABILITATION THERAPy programs.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to write evaluation and progress reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas to be considered for the position: Behavioral Sciences, Social Sciences, Rehabilitation Sciences, Psychology, Counseling, Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Education, Physical Education with course work Adaptive Physical Education, Vocational Education, Dance Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Leisure studies with course work in Therapeutic Recreation, or Horticulture Therapy.
  • Two years’ experience supervising others.
