Job Description
Rehabilitation Counselor:
The Rehabilitation Counselor for the Nurse and Vocational Rehabilitation Case Management Services (NVRS) program will report to a Regional Team Lead and will work with the rest of the Nurse and Vocational Rehabilitation Case Management Team to deliver expert, quality services and supports to our Department of Labor customer and the injured workers (IWs) the program serves.
The Rehabilitation Counselor provides vocational rehabilitation services under the Nurse and Vocational Rehabilitation Case Management Services (NVRS) Contract, which supports the Office of Workmen's Compensation Programs (OWCP) above and beyond the disability claims management process managed by a claims examiner by providing intensive and immediate intervention early in the disability period, assist with the medical management of disability claims, and assist with the provision of vacation rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation Counselors support disabled individuals to facilitate their employment and/or reemployment and determine their earning capacity.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide vocational counseling and guidance.
- Conduct vocational assessments, including vocational testing, work evaluations, and situational assessments.
- Conduct job analysis and transferrable skills analysis
- Assist with vocational exploration and labor market surveys
- Develop plans covering job seeking skills training, job placement, job seeking skills training; direct job placement; identification of qualification for any special Federal hiring authorities; and on-the- job training or formal training (short- term, refresher, or retraining
- Facilitate job readiness and job placement services
- Provide specialized job, vehicle, and home modification services as well as life care planning services for catastrophic injury cases.
- Coordinate and schedule functional capacity evaluations, work hardening and similar inpatient/outpatient programs, and facilitating treatment for substance abuse, as needed.
- Effectively and promptly communicate all case milestones and activities that require action to the government, including: return to work, work stoppage, and recurrence of symptoms, unrelated medical issues, and instances of non-cooperation.
- Additional duties, as assigned.
Minimum Skills and Qualifications:
- BA/BS in behavioral or social sciences or related field required, MA/MS preferred.
- Specialized certification in one of the following areas required: COHN, CCM, CIRS/CRRN, CDMS, or ANCC/ANA.
- 2+ years of vocational rehabilitation counseling/placement experience AND 2+ years of case management experience in the workers compensation arena.
- Recent experience with the FECA vocational rehabilitation program and/or performing vocational rehabilitation in a workers' compensation environment strongly preferred.
- Additional licenses/certifications preferred: Rehabilitation Counselor, Professional Counselor, General Counselor license (in states where available/required); Vocational Evaluation (CVE/PVE), Work Adjustment (CA); Career Assessment Associate (CCAA).
- Must possess strong computer skills in MS Office, including Excel, Word, Teams.
- Ability to type 45 wpm.
Pay Rate: $48.50-$63.00
Remote work, from home office. The position may require some travel, as dictated by the case.
This is a full-time position.
