Description

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Registered Polysomnographic Technician to join our team!

 

JOB SUMMARY:

A Polysomnographic Technician performs comprehensive polysomnographic testing and analysis, and associated interventions under the general supervision of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and/or the clinical director or designee.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Gather and Analyze Patient Information
    1. Review history, physical information, medications, procedure request, and sleep study protocol.
    2. Complete and verify documentation.
    3. Explain the procedure and orient the patient to the sleep center.
  2. Testing Preparation Procedures
    1. Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments, if necessary.
    2. Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
    3. Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments, if necessary.
    4. Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
  3. Polysomnographic Procedures
    1. Follow procedural protocols (such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness’ Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration, etc) to ensure collection of appropriate data.
    2. Follow “lights out” procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates, etc.)
    3. Perform polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study0tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and make adjustments, if necessary.
    4. Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
    5. Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safely and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure oxygen administration, etc.).
    6. Follow “lights on” procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (e.g. repeats the physiological and instrument calibrations and instructs the patient on completing questionnaires, etc.)
    7. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  4. Polysomnographic Record Scoring.
  5. Other duties as deemed necessary.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:  Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography OR successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one than one year duration associated with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency at all competencies required of a Polysomnographic Technician successful completion of a polysomnography program (A-Step) with certificate showing completion or a Respiratory Therapist License.

 

Certification: Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist or equivalent.

 

Equipment/Technology: Technicianis required to prepare and calibrate equipment for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary.  Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting. Must have more than a basic knowledge of computer skills and become proficient with clinic software.

 

Language/Communication: Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and speak English.  Exhibit good customer service skills.

 

Mathematical Skills: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

 

Mental Capabilities: Must be able to focus for long periods of time. Work at night, stay awake for length of shift (12-hours or more), problem solve and handle stressful situations.

 

Interpersonal: Good grooming and can get alone and work with others.

 

Performance: Needs to exhibit professionalism.
