POSITION PURPOSE
Coordinate and supervise the performance of clinical research programs at a clinical research unit. Conduct and assist in the organization of clinical research. Conduct examinations, administer treatment and/or medication in accordance with research protocol and evaluate outcomes of patient participation in research studies.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Assist the Clinical Research Director in the organization and direction of research programs. Coordinate the development and implementation of clinical research. With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, train new employees, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action. Supervise Registered Nurse - Research personnel and/or para-medical personnel such as paramedics, social workers or physical therapists.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with principal investigators, new investigators, or the Clinical Research Director, and assist in designing protocol of research studies; examine proposals to determine methodologies best suited to research objectives.
Establish the methodology for carrying out aspects of specific research projects as well as best practices for the clinical research unit.
Consult with inpatient and outpatient care providers to integrate participation in research studies with clinical treatment.
Direct day-to-day operations of the clinical research unit including staffing and scheduling.
Conduct patient examinations; coordinate, administer and monitor treatment and procedures; collect, organize and analyze data obtained from the patient in the community and/or medical research setting. Apply an advanced knowledge of nursing practices to research on diabetes and related disorders.
Direct record keeping and data collection for studies; ensure quality control of research data.
Edit and write reports for the clinical research unit; prepare and present oral reports.
Establish and maintain continuing education or training programs for research and clinical staff.
May monitor and assist with preparation of budgets.
May assist in writing grant proposals or the analysis and interpretation of research results.
Perform duties of Registered Nurse 2 – Research.
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or a relevant field AND Three years of experience as a REGISTERED NURSE including one year experience at the Registered Nurse 2 - Research level OR equivalent education/experience.
Legal Requirement(s): Current license to practice as a REGISTERED NURSE in the State of Washington.

Experience and interest in diabetes or related research.
Experience in conduct and supervision of clinical and translational research studies.
