Job Description:

The University of Florida's Student Health Care Center (SHCC) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse I to join our team. This role is a dynamic opportunity for an RN to actively contribute to patient care coordination, medication management, and triage within a collaborative healthcare environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date knowledge in psychiatric nursing practices, ensuring patient safety, and delivering high-quality care. Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate prescription refills in collaboration with Psychiatric providers.
  • Assist with medication Pre-Authorizations.
  • Provide telephone management for medication concerns, side effects, and referrals.
  • Assist patients with laboratory referrals and communicate results to providers.
  • Acquire and maintain current knowledge in psychiatric nursing practices, including emergency procedures.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, and cost factors in planning and delivering patient care.
  • Assess patients' Vital Signs and provide general health maintenance and preventive care education.
  • Document all care and services within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Epic.

Typical Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm 40 hours/week and occasional Sundays. Hours and days may vary according to the needs of the SHCC Psychiatry and unforeseen closures.

Expected Salary:

The salary range is between $28 - $31 per hour and is commensurate with skills and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes.

Preferred Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge to provide patient care using sound nursing practice including knowledge of pathophysiology.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the field of Mental Health, including knowledge of common psychiatric medications and their side effects.
  • Familiarity with the EMR's used in Psychiatry and ability to utilize the EMR's to document patient interactions.
  • Psychiatry experience in outpatient or inpatient facility or comparable exposure to patients with mental health needs in the medical environment.

SKILLS:

  • Skilled in administering intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections
  • Skilled in administering oxygen
  • Skilled in starting, monitoring and administering intravenous (IV) fluids and medications
  • Skilled in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Skilled in performing wound care and Point-of-Care Testing

ABILITIES

  • Ability to communicate efficiently in writing and verbally with patients, family members and staff
  • Ability to take pertinent histories and document in appropriate health records
  • Ability to administer medications
  • Ability to provide treatment to patient using SHCC/SHCC Psychiatry guidelines, policies and procedures.
