The Registered Nurse supports the Medical Director of the Sleep Disorders Center by providing direct patient care in the sleep clinic. The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of a R.N.
  • Obtains and updates a medication and problem list for every patient.
  • Performs an educational assessment with every patient and documents education teaching.
  • Triages all patient phone calls, documents in charts appropriately and notifies physician when necessary.
  • Calls patients to result Sleep Studies.
  • Demonstrates competence and current knowledge in Sleep Medicine nursing across the life span.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide direct patient care to individuals in the Sleep Center.
  • Provides clinical support to the Medical Director of Sleep Services in the role of an office practice R.N.
  • Assists in sleep service education to the hospital staff and the community.
  • Obtains insurance authorizations for medications and CPAP.
  • Assists with the Development of short and long-range goals and objectives for the Sleep Disorders Center
  • Enhances job knowledge by remaining current on trends in the health care industry and specialty areas.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the hospital as well as the proper release of information.
  • Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development, and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.
  • Demonstrates/models the hospital’s core values and customer service behaviors in interactions with all customers (internal and external).
  • Complies with hospital and departmental policies regarding safety, attendance and dress code. Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information.
  • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).
  • Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.
  • Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.
  • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
  • Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.
PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sit up to 2 hours per day, 1 hour at a time. Stand for up to 8 hours per day, 6 hours at a time. Walk 7 hours per day, 10 minutes at a time. Consistently lift, carry, and push objects up to 10 lbs. Occasionally lift, carry or push objects up to 75 lbs. Transports patients weighting up to 300 lbs. via wheelchair or stretcher. Frequently stoop, and bend. Frequently reach above shoulder level. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation and high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general near, far, color, and peripheral vision.
EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Registered Nurse with current license to practice in the state of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 4 years of clinical nursing experience. CPR certified.
WORK SCHEDULE: Dayshift Monday-Friday 40 hours per week as assigned based on the needs of the department.
