Department/Unit: Vascular Access Team

Shift/Hours .2 FTE 8 hours/week. Nights 7p-7a, 11p-7a

Vascular Access Team ~The Vascular Access team at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center consists of three subgroups: Central Venous Catheter, Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter, & Peripheral Intravenous nurses.

Central Venous Catheter (CVC) nurses: Monitor all inpatients with Vascular Access devices (tunneled, non-tunneled, port, dialysis and PICCs), Develop and revise policies and procedures related to central venous catheters, Evaluate new CVC products, Conduct CVC research, Educate, present and publish information regarding central venous catheters, & Troubleshoot central venous complications

PICC nurses: Assess patients referred for PICC placement, Obtain informed consent for PICC insertion, & Insert PICC utilizing ultrasound guidance in collaboration with Interventional Radiology

Peripheral Intravenous (PIV) nurses: Place PIVs on patients with difficult access, Educate staff related to PIV insertion, holding techniques and recognition of infiltration, & Assist CVC nurses in troubleshooting CVC occlusions

Qualifications:EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:
·Associate/Diploma prepared RNs from ACEN, CCNE or NLN CNEA accredited inst with 2 yr. exp.
·If hired as an external candidate without BSN or MSN, must enroll in a BSN or MSN program within 1 year of hire date and complete program within 5 years of hire date
· Active Ohio RN License. May be required to obtain other state licensure.
·Foreign graduates must have license validated through CGFNS per Ohio Board of Nursing code for Foreign Graduates

Preferred:
·BSN from ACEN, CCNE or NLN CNEA accredited institution or MSN
