This position is service and consultative and reports directly to the Director of Nursing. In the performance of their respective duties, the Registered Nurse is entrusted with the following responsibilities:

  1. The maintenance of each resident's health care record in compliance with state and federal regulations and agency policies and procedures.
  2. The completion of all quarterly and annual nursing assessments for each resident ensures that all documentation is completed.
  3. The ordering, monitoring, assessment, and documentation associated with each resident's medication regimen and ensuring lab orders are followed and documents are shared with MD for signatures. This will include SAMA’s and PSRs per state guidelines.
  4. Required to follow  all requirements as set out by the rule governing the “Delegation of Administration of Medications” (DHS Administrative Rule 116)
  5. Attendance at each resident's interdisciplinary team meetings at the ICF and provides input into the CILA client’s yearly meetings.
  6. Working with the medical coordinator relating to the medical needs and accompanying persons served by the agency to medical and health-related appointments as needed.
  7. If an RN Trainer, training all DSPs on the medication cart at the ICF and the CILAs to ensure that they are capable of providing medication administration according to State guidelines. Providing ongoing training of all DSPs which includes providing competencies throughout the year as per the Nurse Supervisor.
  8. The quality assurance of the agency's infection and exposure control program.
  9. Communication with family members and guardians regarding the health care status of individuals served by the agency.
  10. The coordination of and participation in quarterly pharmacy reviews with the agency's pharmacist consultant.
  11. Attendance at agency in-service training and staff meetings.
  12. Research medical reimbursement issues when sanctioned as appropriate by the Administrator.
  13. The provision of medical support to aid employee health screening for employment retention and regulatory compliance.

Skills:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. 
  • Must be able to communicate clearly, both written and orally, as to communicate with employees, members of the management team, residents, families, and in group presentations and meetings
  • This position requires the ability to work both independently and with a team.
  • Effective and creative organization of time and duties to complete all responsibilities in a thorough and timely manner is necessary.
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision and make independent decisions based upon standard policies and procedures, as well as good judgment.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills with the ability to follow and seek direction along with exercising good problem-solving skills. The ability to show and understand compassion and patience is essential. Reliability, dependability, and flexibility are necessary for success in this position.
  • Knowledge in collecting and interpreting data along with tracking information, or the ability to learn quickly is necessary.
  • Must be adept at problem-solving, including being able to identify issues and resolve problems promptly
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to prioritize and plan work activities as to use time efficiently
  • Must be organized, accurate, thorough, and able to monitor work for quality
  • Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and must be able to improve performance through management feedback

 

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

The Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits discrimination against any qualified individual with a disability. To be qualified for this position an individual must meet the following standards and be able to perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Must pass post-employment physical and drug test within 3 days
  • Must pass an Illinois state criminal background check with no disqualifying conditions
  • Must pass TB test within 30 days of employment
  • Must have a valid Illinois driver's license with a good driving record to maintain insurability
  • CPR and First Aid certified

Environmental Conditions:

Work may be performed in a variety of settings with varying levels of cleanliness, noise, etc., conditions typically present in an office/home environment.

This position can be active, involving the exercise of effective public relations skills. Responsibilities include walking, lifting, bending, and stooping. Qualified individuals must be able to lift loads that are not normally more than 50 pounds. Manual dexterity and keen vision are necessary for assisting to teach independence to the residents in the program.

Day, evening, weekend day availability will be necessary on an as-needed basis
