Essential Functions:

· Conducts intake assessments through interview with patients and relative to gather case history.

· Plans and proved nursing care for patients.

· Makes nursing diagnosis of the medical and emotional status of patients and recommends treatment options.

· Consults with psychiatrists, psychologists and other mental health staff in designing appropriate treatment plans for clients.

· Initiates and conducts individual and group therapy sessions and education groups.

· Administers and notes reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications.

· Arranges further medical attention when necessary.

· Assists the client in understanding the nature of emotional disturbances and accepting the need for treatment.

· Assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment for a staff and patients.

· Tests for vital signs of pain and ensures treatment of pain.

· Prepares the Medication Administration Record (MAR) appropriately and completely following procedure.

· Interprets and complies with laws, rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures to include security requirements applicable to locked facility settings.

· Documents all patient information on medical charts and follows physicians written orders.

· Maintains patient confidentiality.

· Maintains accurate records and documentation of patient treatments, immunizations, and laboratory results according to standard medical record keeping.

· Identifies normal and abnormal laboratory results and uses common current medical terminology appropriately in written documentation and verbal reports.

· Uses and cares for medical equipment used in a clinical and dispensary setting.

· Performs administrative assignments such as filing, answering phones, typing, maintaining, and completing statistical logs for the unit.

· May prepare written psychiatric evaluations of a client’s condition and may recommend court ordered hospitalization.

· May train or assist in the training of nursing and mental health staff.

· May testify in court as to the client’s mental and physical condition.

· Provides courteous, high quality services to patients and members of the public by personally responding to requests for service or making appropriate referral.

Job Qualifications:

• Required knowledge of basic patient care methods, procedures, and techniques.
• The physical ability and perceptual acuity (e.g., visual, and hearing) to satisfactorily perform all direct and indirect patient care functions.
• Ability to express thoughts logically, in English, in both written and verbal form.
• Ability to use computers and Windows software applications (preferred).

Licenses/Certifications:

• Current RN License for the state in which the nurse practices.
• BLS
• COVID-19 vaccine with Booster
• Must have the ability to pass a background check and drug screen
