EQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- Current certification in ACLS/ BLS.
- At least one year of ambulatory surgical center/critical care experience.
- Strong command of the English language, both verbal and written.
- Follow AORN standards and aseptic techniques for care of the perioperative patient
- Ability to work well with physicians, employees, patients, and others.
- Ability to scrub in spine, ortho and pain management cases is preferred, but not required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Make sound clinical decisions using critical thinking skills when providing patient care.
· Prepares room prior to surgery with all anticipated instruments, supplies, equipment etc. Follows strict aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies, setting up procedures and anticipates needs of surgeon during procedure/ surgery.
· Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of assigned case and instruments and/or trays to be readied for the procedure. Checks all equipment/instruments needed, prior to each procedure, to ensure proper functioning.
· Assists in the positioning, prepping, and draping of patients for surgical procedures. Sets up, scrubs, and prepares for procedures prior to scheduled time
· Regularly collaborates with other members of the team to maintain equipment and supplies for surgical procedures and assists in end- of- case cleanup
· Maintain and demonstrate current skills and knowledge of surgical procedures performed within the Center, intravenous therapy, medication administration, possess strong physical assessment skills, assist in airway maintenance, dysrhythmia detection, provide patient education, use strict aseptic technique when required and additional clinical competencies not mentioned here.
· Ensure complete and thorough documentation of patient care.
· Familiarize oneself with Joint Commission guidelines and clinical policies and procedures of the center.
· Actively participates in performance improvement/ quality improvement (CQI) activities, infection prevention and other assigned committees.
· Advocate for patient safety and implement infection prevention practices
