Job Description Summary

The Shawn Jenkins Outpatient Clinic consists of many clinics.  The Pediatric Sickle Cell Clinic is held daily, with additional clinics run at different intervals of the week.  These include: Craniofacial clinic monthly, Burn clinic, Retinopathy of Prematurity, Pediatric GI, and a Hematology clinic.  We do infusions daily of blood products, IV pain management and IV iron. There are 6 infusion bays and 4 exam rooms. Our clinic team consists of RNs, LPN and a CMA  who work alongside  multidisciplinary teams to deliver quality and safety of care for our patients. Each day’s workflow varies depending on the clinic, but includes working as a team that includes: patient triage, in-clinic procedures, administering IV pain medication, blood products, IV antibiotics, patient/parent education, medication administration including vaccines, CVC line care, obtaining EKG, and care coordination. Team members work alongside providers (including physicians, PAs and NPs) during patient clinic visits to provide the needed care our patients deserve. Other team members that we work alongside include: Social workers, Pharmacists, Psychologist, and Phlebotomists.

RN I Job Summary/Purpose: Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) assists at the advanced beginner level in providing individualized, goal directed nursing care to patients and families utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process; interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes.
RN II Job Summary/Purpose: Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.
RN I Minimum Training and Education:  Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred unless current MUSC employee. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
RN II Minimum Training and Education:  Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
