The Resource/Float Pool is designed to cover staffing shortages that occur on a day-to-day basis. The Resource/Float Pool RN is assigned to a nursing unit by the Nurse of the Day (NOD) based on staffing needs in the organization for that shift and the individual's competency level. The RN is responsible for the provision of patient care as assigned and is directly responsible to the Nurse of the Day (NOD) Manager.
Duties include:
The RN must demonstrate the ability to work effectively as a team member and must be able to communicate, listen, report and gather crucial data to enhance patient outcomes.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- completes admission assessments on assigned patients
- reassesses patient condition at the frequency required for the assigned unit
- verifies physician orders using electronic health records system
- complete patient care plans according to policy
- plans for discharge/transfer of patients including completing discharge/transfer note in the electronic health records system
- administers medications per policy and documents using Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA)
- provides patient care to assigned patients during shift
- functions independently in performing complex treatments and procedures
- provides education to patients and families
Work Schedule: 730pm - 8am; 11:30pm - 8:00am; must be flexible with schedule; TOD will be determined by the Nurse Manager based on facility needs

Preferred Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Minimum of 5 years acute care medical/surgical experience
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
