Psychiatric/Mental Health Registered Nurse Position at New Mexico VA Health Care System
Summary
Inpatient positions at the New Mexico VA Health Care System are eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. If hired, you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. The approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a complete review of the EDRP application.
Qualifications
- United States Citizenship is required as per VA Policy
- English Language Proficiency is necessary for direct patient care positions
- Graduation from an approved nursing school with specific accreditations
- Different levels of nursing experience for grade determinations
- MSN degrees obtained through Bridge Programs do not require a BSN
Grade Determinations
- Nurse I Level I - ADN or Diploma in Nursing with no additional nursing practice/experience required
- Nurse I Level II - ADN or Diploma in Nursing with some nursing practice/experience
- Nurse I Level III - ADN or Diploma in Nursing with more nursing practice/experience
- Nurse II and Nurse III levels based on BSN, MSN, or doctoral degrees and nursing practice/experience
Physical Requirements
Heavy lifting, carrying, reaching, use of fingers, walking and standing, bending, rapid coordination, and hearing ability are required for the role.
Duties
The Psychiatric/Mental Health Registered Nurse is responsible for providing care to patients with complex needs. They must demonstrate leadership, ethical principles, and provide education to patients and staff members.
Inpatient Psychiatric Units Duties
Registered Nurses assigned to inpatient psychiatric units provide Veteran-centered care and help stabilize patients in acute settings.
Outpatient Mental Health Work Schedule:
Full-time, 1-hour tours, varied shifts. RNs provide safe, quality, and efficient nursing care for veterans seeking mental health services.
MHRRTP Work Schedule
Registered Nurses work in both North and South units, providing care planning for Veterans receiving residential treatment for mental health issues.
