This Navajo Area Indian Health Service Facilities is a 60-bed hospital which serves as the health care hub for the region. The medical staff includes Family Physicians, Internists, Pediatricians, General Surgeons, OB/GYN's, Anesthesiologists, and a psychiatrist. In addition to routine outpatient and inpatient primary care, services available to patients include Adult Intensive Care, General Surgery (including laparoscopic surgery), routine and operative Obstetrics, and 24-Hour Emergency Room Services. Position contingent upon award of contract, government acceptance of candidate, and positive adjudication of government investigation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Provide full range of adult medical-surgical care to patients admitted to Adult Care Unit (ACU).
• Exercise knowledge of the nursing process and its application to clinical practice in order to provide individualized, goal-oriented nursing care to the adult patient(s).
• Exercise knowledge of scientific and psychosocial nursing theory, principles, practices and techniques in order to plan and provide quality nursing care which meets the physical, spiritual, and social-cultural needs of the Indian patient.
• Exercise knowledge of biological aspects of disease processes and illness in order to recognize Complications and implement appropriate therapeutic intervention required.
• Exercise knowledge of the medications/dosages in order to recognize their desired effects, side-effects, and complications of their use.
• Analyze the results of various medical procedures and translate them into appropriate nursing interventions.
• Work effectively and harmoniously within the health care team and with Indian patients and their families.
• Provide appropriate documentation regarding care rendered using Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility's (CCHCF) Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. All documentation by the provider shall be entered electronically using the Electronic Health Record system. The provider is responsible for utilizing the CCHCF EHR system to obtain pertinent patient information in assisting care. It is the responsibility of the provider to use the training resources provided by the CCHCF to develop competency in utilizing the Electronic Health Record system.
• Follows facility policies and procedures, TJC, OSHA, Indian Health Services (IHS) and other federal licensing, accreditation and regulating body standards.
• Provides guidance to other staff regarding clinical decisions. Assist with and ensures unit is in compliance with daily quality checks.
Make patient unit assignments, specifically deciding assignment in adult med/surg unit based on acuity. Contractor shall ensure narcotic inventory, daily checks and logs are completed in a timely manner.
Education & Experience Requirements:
• Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by applicant.
• Must possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States, throughout the term of this contract.
• Must provide evidence of current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN), Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) are preferred.
Must have thirty-six (36) months of nursing experience with a minimum twelve (24) months in an intensive Care Unit.
Working Conditions/Working Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Tour of Duty: The time of day the nurse is scheduled to perform nursing care duties; 11.5 hours with a one-hour lunch break. Night shift 12 hours with a 30-minute lunch break. Shifts totaling 7 Shifts/2-week period, may work weekends, holidays, rotating day and night shifts, based on the unit's needs for coverage.
