Job Summary
The RN provides nursing care that meets individualized resident needs, using recognized nursing techniques, procedures and established standards based on the Minnesota Board of Nursing scope of practice. This position functions within and is supportive of the goals and objectives of Mission Nursing Home and the nursing department. Commitment to meet ethical, moral, and legal obligations of this position held in high standards. Conduct consistently reflects the facility’s mission and values.
Qualifications
· Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
· Current license as Registered Nurse in the state of Minnesota.
· Must be able to pass a State of Minnesota Department of Human Services criminal background study, as well as a United States Office of the Inspector General Exclusion search.
· CPR Certification required.
Essential Functions
· Responsible for coordination of assigned duties of Certified Nursing Assistants (NAR’s) on unit, focusing on resident-directed care.
· Maintain unit narcotic and controlled drug count records per facility policy and procedure.
· Documents in resident medical record per facility policies.
· Care in the use of supplies and equipment.
· Assist with reviews and updates of resident care plans under the direct of the
· Keep medication rooms and treatment carts clean and stocked.
· Communicates and clearly documents any/all changes in resident condition.
· Provide input for care conferences.
· Communicates any pertinent unit activities or personnel problems to appropriate person(s).
· Participates in shift-to-shift report process per facility policy.
· Communicates with other departments effectively.
· Admits and orients new resident and families and completes admission paperwork, as assigned.
· Assist NAR’s with bedside care of resident, as needed.
· Perform and document resident vital signs, as warranted.
· Administers and records medications and treatments as prescribed by physician, per facility policies and procedures.
· Orders medications from pharmacy per facility policy.
· Makes necessary arrangements for discharge or transfer of residents, complete required forms and makes appropriate escort arrangements.
· Assist with safety needs of residents, per facility Safe Patient Handling policies and procedures.
· Carries out proper isolation techniques.
· Works with HUC, Care Coordinator, or Nurse Manager on scheduling of appointments for resident at clinics, offices for diagnostic, therapeutic, dental or medical services.
· Keeps families/guardians aware of condition and needs of resident, under the direction of the plan of care.
· Informs resident physicians of any unusual or abnormal observations and completes documentation in resident medical record.
· Accurately receives and transcribes physician orders into Matrix Care, per facility policy.
· Performs resident exams and treatments per facility policies and procedures.
· Accompanies physicians on rounds, as needed.
· Participates in continuing education including inservice programs.
· Obtains appropriate CEU’s for maintaining current license and as needed with renewal.
· Assists with staff Performance Evaluations, as assigned by RN Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing.
· Treats and ensures that residents are treated with respect and dignity.
· Protects organization’s value by keeping patient information confidential.
· Immediately reports any suspected abuse or neglect per facility policy.
· Follow standard precautions, facility safety policies, and works within OSHA guidelines.
· Attends all in-services education, competencies and staff meetings as required.
· Report vulnerable adult concerns per facility policy and regulations.
· Is familiar with fire and disaster regulations and procedures, participates in drills.
· Reports any equipment malfunctions to designated employee, including knowledge of Lockout/Tagout Policy and Procedure.
· Participates in Unit Quality & Safety Meetings, as directed.
· Technical resources such as but not limited to; two-way communication devices, online records, documentation/ EMAR, email, web based continued education, ability to utilize internet and other tech devices.
· Other duties as assigned
Physical/Mental Requirements
Ability to endure prolonged walking, sitting, standing, use of pulling, bending, and stooping movements. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Frequently pushes or pulls residents 300-600 feet with weight resistance equivalent to 35 pounds. Frequently twists, stoops, bends, squats, kneels. Occasionally lifts and carries equipment and supplies weighting up-to 35 pounds. Frequently reaches above or at shoulder level. Ability to adapt to changes in daily work hours and schedule.
· Identifies residents, call lights, unusual occurrences on unit.
· Concentrates with frequent interruptions and remembers multiple messages, information and task assignments to perform a variety of tasks during an eight hour or longer periods of time.
· Must be able to clearly communicate in English orally and in writing with residents and staff.
· Must be able to read small print in typed and written material.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $34.00 - $50.00 per hour
Expected hours: 24 – 40 per week
