Job Summary

Under general direction, Registered Dietitians develop and implement programs designed to improve the diet and nutrition of students and the campus community through changes in dietary practices; develop and provide educational and consultative services to students in nutrition, diet, weight management, and food choices. Provides education and clinical consultation for staff of the Student Health Services.

Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Registered Dietitian Student Support. Performs outpatient nutrition counseling sessions, including assessment, education, medical nutrition therapy (prescription of food and supplements), and monitoring/evaluation. Range of issues addressed includes (but is not limited to): sports nutrition, diabetes education, eating disorders/disordered eating, diet and weight management, meal planning, education regarding eating choices on campus, food allergies/intolerances, autoimmune disorders, and nutrition recommendations as they relate to overall health and wellness. Documents all services in the SHS electronic medical records system. Acts as a member of the Eating Disorder Treatment Team.
  • SHS Department Support. Participate in SHS staff meetings, committees, activities to support AAAHC accreditation and other activities/projects in support of SHS and the wider campus. Participates in regular feedback of nutrition programs, policies, and procedures. Provides clinical consultation, in-services, and education for SHS staff, including peer educator mentorship, as needed. Assists with coordination of peer nutrition counseling program.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Comply with HIPAA Health Care Privacy and Security Law. Comply with SHS policies, procedures, and guidelines. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. General computer literacy for health promotion and research. Ability to interact in a effectively and sensitively culturally and ethnically diverse university community and participate in periodic DEIA educational activities. Oral communication skills to communicate diplomatically and effectively with co-workers, staff, and departmental staff. Ability to work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues and coordinate with others.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and maintain a positive and respectful attitude. Ability to work effectively and productively as part of a team. Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position, providing high quality, evidenced based nutrition services to our patient population. Ability to be present at job/work. Experience with eating disorder diagnosis, treatment, and management.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in health sciences, dietetics, home economics, nursing, or a related field and two years of progressively responsible community nutrition experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a program approved and accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The RD credential also requires completion of an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics accredited pre-professional experience program. Additionally, incumbents must possess sufficient experience to perform the assigned duties.
  • Possess and maintain certification as a Registered Dietitian as defined by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Master’s degree and at least 2 years previous nutrition counseling preferred.
  • Experience with eating disorder diagnosis, treatment, and management preferred.

Physical Summary

Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,152 - $8,012 per month.

Benefits

Excellent benefits through CalPERS (health, vision, dental), tuition fee waiver, generous vacation, and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays each year.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
