Job Description
- Perform oral prophylaxis, scaling and debridement of teeth, and root planing procedures to remove calculus, stain, and plaque from teeth and gums.
- Conduct oral cancer screenings, evaluate patients for gum disease, and develop treatment plans according to individual patient needs.
- Take and record patients’ dental history, medical history, and dental charts for proper diagnosis.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, brushing and flossing techniques, and nutrition for maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
- Administer fluoride treatments and apply sealants and desensitizing agents.
- Take and develop dental radiographs and intraoral photos to aid in diagnosis.
- Effectively communicate and work with the dentist and other dental professionals to ensure quality patient care.
- Maintain accurate and complete dental records and patient charts.
- Follow proper safety protocols for infection control and hazardous materials handling.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited dental hygiene program. (REQUIRED)
- Licensed to practice dental hygiene in the state of work. (REQUIRED)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and other dental professionals.
- Knowledge of dental anatomy, physiology, and pathology, and the latest dental hygiene treatments and technologies.
- Ability to use dental instruments and equipment such as dental operatory lights, ultrasonic scalers, and sterilizers.
- Proficient in computer skills and dental practice management software.
- Knowledge of X-Ray technology and radiology safety specifics.
