Works with appropriate hospital, medical examiner and funeral home personnel to meet needs of the facility with regards to tissue donations. This includes referral of donors, identifying and communicating process improvement opportunities and tissue donation follow up. Educates professionals and public on tissue banking process and importance in registering to be a donor.
Duties and Responsibilities
Hospital Services and ME relations (donor services):
- Engages in collaboration and innovation with hospital, medical examiner, OPO, eye bank and funeral home staff, public, families, and colleagues to gain support in promoting ownership of tissue donation and increase conversion of potential tissue donors with each facility assigned
- Provides assistance in obtaining donor related documents (hospital records, autopsy, etc.) as required
- Performs Death Audits and synthesizes data in order to effectively track and trend hospital compliance with regulatory agencies, improve processes and increase donations. Delivers these statistics to hospital administration on a regular basis
- Negotiate agreements and relations with medical examiner offices to secure scene death referrals. Design development plan with each office to improve communications and increase donors in UMTB's target age group
- Perform donor follow up hospitals, medical examiner and funeral homes within 72 hours of the donor recovery and report challenges to manager to improve donation outcomes
- Will be required to perform any other task or function within the department on an as needed or emergency basis and as assigned by Manager or designee.
Education
Minimum advanced degree in a pertinent field, e.g. BA. BS.
Experience
5+ years relevant experience in Tissue Banking preferable or operating room environment or medical center environment. Areas of expertise should include: sales, marketing, education, business analysis use primary and secondary sources. Excellent organization and presentation experience and skills. Proficient with MS Office Suites and the UNTB Software application
Working Conditions
There is much travel related to this position and conditions on the roadway can me strenuous: weather conditions, distance, traffic, poor drivers etc. Some days require long hours based on availability of clients. The position does require that night rounds be performed in each respective hospital quarterly. Local and statewide travel required, approx. 70% of the time. National travel approximately 5% of the time.
Physical Requirements
Significant travel is required which can include sitting in a car for extended hours.
