Job description

The Regional Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Western River Valley, NWA, and North Central areas of Arkansas’ sports. The Regional Program Coordinator will oversee a consistent effort to grow the number of athletes served, work to build local programs, and specifically target areas in sports development and Unified Champion Schools, and Young Athletes in alignment with our Strategic Plan.

The Regional Program Coordinator will lead in regional growth, outreach, and engagement as well with athletes, schools, agencies, and families and will be responsible for the growth of sports and volunteer opportunities within the area served.

The Regional Program Coordinator is responsible for representing the company to external stakeholders, community organizations, schools, agencies, and sponsors.

This is a position that is based in our NWA office. Evening and weekend work with some extended travel and overnights are required.

Responsibilities/Qualifications:

· Serve as the primary contact and support person for local Area Directors

· Recruit and train new volunteers to serve as local coordinators and/or Points of Contact as needed.

· Enhance the sports opportunities for the Region served.

· Create a network for families for communication, training, and competition.

· Provide professional development for educators promoting our Unified Champion Schools

· Coordinate a strategy to establish SOAR programs in areas where none exist.

· Responsible for assisting Area Games Management teams with their local games.

· Responsible for the growth of local competition managers and volunteers ensuring quality experiences for all involved.

· Support SOAR’s UCS staff and coordinate efforts to establish UCS schools/programs throughout the region.

· Establish quality growth goals for the region.

· Develop new opportunities for our coaches' education system.

· Recruit new volunteers, schools, agencies, and athletes.

· Enhance Young Athletes programing in region served within communities, homes, and schools

· Establish a network for independent athletes to train and compete.

Experience/Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Nonprofit management, physical education, or related field, ideal.
  • Experience working with volunteers preferred.
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Delivers effective individual and group presentations that are powerful and impactful to drive support of Special Olympics Arkansas
  • Skilled in developing key relationships with individuals while building rapport quickly to deliver more opportunities for our program.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, act innovatively, and embrace change.
  • Ability to work effectively in virtual and office environments.
  • High levels of organization and prioritization
  • Self-motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced, complex, and goal-oriented, team environment.
  • Creativity and wiliness to try new approaches and receive constructive feedback.
  • Must pass a background check (required for all staff)
