- Understands and implements all duties encompassing an optician and lead optician.
- Ensures that all optical staff members are fully trained and competent.
- Trains, coaches and mentors’ employees. Also fosters the development of strong relationships between optical and clinic/providers.
- Maintains emphasis on profitable operations while satisfying patient needs.
- Constantly assesses financial performance with director and helps implement it throughout the staff.
- Serves as spokesperson, when necessary, for the department.
- Works on developing an in-depth knowledge of the area workplace. This will include attendance at appropriate conferences.
- Works in conjunction with the logistics / project manager to negotiates and develop relationships with vendors.
- Communicates with the optical director on a regular basis concerning all financial matters.
- Manages effectiveness of each optician.
- Acts as a role model for all other opticians.
- Provides coverage for all locations when needed.
- Recruitment, hiring, and dismissal of all personnel.
- Oversees the computer system of the department to ensure maximum utilization and increased practice efficiency.
- Supervision, including preparation and monitoring of job descriptions, salary reviews, and personnel evaluations.
- Reviews and analyzes monthly financial statements for the department.
- Provides direct or indirect approval of all departmental expenditures.
- Organizes regular meetings for the optical department.
- Responsible for developing plans for community outreach, building and maintaining outside relationships and other efforts to increase growth.
- Visits each office as necessary.
- Participates in on-going continuing education.
- If licensed maintains state licensing.
- Encourages a team-oriented environment and follows company guidelines and policies.
- Performs any and all duties as reasonably assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience working in the optical field.
- If certified maintain certification in ABO and NCLE. If licensed maintain a State License.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Effective supervisory skills.
- Working knowledge of inventory management, eyewear sales, and lens options.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Personable; empathetic with patient’s and employee's needs and concerns.
- Well- organized with attention to detail.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Demonstrated computer literacy.
- Ability to motivate and train a professional staff Extensive experience and understanding of all aspects related to operations of a modern optical dispensary.
- Ability to express himself/herself, in writing and orally, in a professional manner.
- Knowledge of standard accounting principles.
