Position Overview
This position will be a key resource in developing and completing manufacturing process improvements across the East Regions 19 Pipe & Precast manufacturing locations. These improvements will increase profitability, throughput, and quality, improving the East Regions competitive position. The Operational Excellence Director will report to the Regional Operations Director and should be self-motivated and able to work effectively in a decentralized and matrixed team environment. This position will work closely with Plant Management Teams and the Regional Operations Team to implement, track, and manage change initiatives.
Responsibilities

  • Site by site P&L analysis and corrective action development where appropriate.
  • Develop, evaluate, and improve production methods utilizing lean tools, knowledge of product design, materials and parts, tooling and production equipment capabilities, process methods, and quality control standards.
  • Collaborate with Regional Operations Team to build short, medium, and long-term improvement plans for the region including shifts & labor utilization, automation & equipment implementation.
  • Oversee and lead plant improvement workshops to identify, diagnose and address bottlenecks and inefficiencies in production processes.
  • Provide follow-up and tracking to ensure identified improvement opportunities are completed as planned and teams are accountable to the process.
  • Force rank improvement opportunities - develop and implement project analysis techniques and processes to select opportunities that optimize the following desired attributes: Profit impact, Time to complete, Complexity, Risk, Cost to Implement.
  • Purview over labor and material cost trends and corrective actions where appropriate.
  • Track and assess inventory levels vs. backlog.

Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree Preferred in Engineering, Business or related degree or the equivalent in relevant experience.
  • 10+ years of Management experience in the Concrete or Building products industry.
  • In depth knowledge and practical experience applying lean manufacturing methodologies to support continuous production operations. Track record of achieving positive results using lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Competency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and experience with ERP/MRP systems and project management tools.
  • Demonstrable experience leading manufactured cost improvements.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Strong relationship builder, experience with change management
  • Thorough understanding of lean management tools and practices with ability to assess, explain and deploy with common-sense approach to plant teams to drive measurable improvements.
  • Problem solver able to consistently think strategically, act with urgency, and uphold our high ethical standards.
  • Travel up to 75% of the time.
