In 2023, Governor Hochul announced the expansion of the NYS Master Teacher Program (NYSMTP) to invite school counselors into a vibrant statewide professional network of outstanding K-12 educators. The Regional Director for Counselors forthe NYSMTP will play an integral role in candidate recruitment, application development and review, and implementation of the professional learning program for school counselors. This strategic work is directly informed by and related to statewide program goals. The position reports directly to the Executive Director of the NYSMTP.
The New York State Master Teacher Program (NYSMTP) was created in 2013 to identify and reward excellent K-12 teachers in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math. The program supports educators by offering incentives to remain committed to classroom teaching including high-quality professional development, peer mentoring opportunities, and a yearly stipend for a period of four years. The Regional Director for Counselors forthe NYSMTP works with their peer Regional Directors for K-12 STEM teachers and the Assistant Director for Program Development to help create a statewide network for Master Counselors that parallels the same structure as for the STEM Master Teachers.
The goal of the NYSMTP is to sustain a community that defines excellence in STEM teaching and, with the expansion, in school counseling. The NYSMTP is administered at 9 SUNY campuses across the state and in partnership with Math for America in New York City. More information is available at www.suny.edu/masterteacher. Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $69,000-$87,000.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate recruitment efforts for school counselors, prioritizing outreach to district/school leadership across the regions. This includes representing the NYSMTP at appropriate regional events
- Proactively design and provide resources to support the development of the professional learning program for the NYS Master Counselors, working with the Master Counselors and outreach to SUNY faculty and relevant professional associations. This includes developing and maintaining a robust calendar of activities geared towards the professional learning goals of the Master Counselors.
- Design collaborative programming for Master Counselors and Master Teachers.
- Communicate and provide support as needed to the Master Counselors
- Manage the budget for the Counselor cohort.
- Assist with selection process, review of data collection tools, programming protocols, and recruitment.
- Strategize with the Executive Director and fellow Regional Directors to develop future phases to expand the professional network of the NYSMTP
- Travel on an as-needed basis
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors' degree required
- Three years of professional experience in the field of counseling, K-12 or higher ed
- Evidence of effective writing, oral communication, and interpersonal skills
- Highly skilled in driving to results through planning and execution, critical thinking, and problem-solving
- Effective decision-making skills for multiple simultaneous projects
- Strong work ethic
- Creativity that translates into enthusiasm for the successful accomplishment of program goals
- Ability to travel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree
- Experience as a counselor in K-12 education
- Fluidity with Microsoft Suite products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access, and social media platforms
- Experience with recruitment
