The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Region VP, Development, School Engagement in our Eastern States Region. The position will be Home Office based with the flexibility to be located in New Jersey or Delaware.

Under the direction of the SVP of Development, the VP is responsible for providing coaching and supervision to a team of 7 to 8 Development Directors and team revenue goal of approximately $3.25M.  This position specializes in securing and activating sponsorship for our School Market, from corporations and healthcare organizations throughout the territory focusing on recruiting, goal setting and managing a team. You will mentor and have responsibility in volunteer recruitment and management, will work to leverage volunteers through committees and/or boards in the market, to make introductions to schools and districts and corporations to participate and/or sponsor the youth health movement.  Hold each other accountable, both volunteers and staff, while being accessible and build collaborative staff-volunteer partnerships that are based on a foundation of mutual trust. Build a collaborative environment where staff from various functions work together to achieve results across health, revenue and volunteerism goals for the organization throughout NJ, DE and NYC.

Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities:

  • Accept final responsibility for overall management, planning and development of School Engagement Development  Market activities in assigned region. Guide and lead team to achieve goals. This will include traveling with your Directors in the field.
  • Accountable for hiring, directing, training, evaluating and terminating staff under their supervision.
  • Maintain the expense budget for your assigned region and the overall affiliate product budget for School Engagement fundraising activities.
  • Participate in the planning and coordination of affiliate-wide School Market conferences, strategic planning, advocacy initiatives, and goal development activities.
  • Accept final responsibility to plan, builds and executes a timeline for all School Engagement activities and team goals.
  • Work with the Senior Vice President of Development to reach National performance benchmarks, using identified Best Practices.
  • Coordinates, plans and implements activities and resources necessary to achieve School Market territory  fundraising goal, with a focus on new business development.
  • Provides vision and strategy through best practices for Kids Heart Challenge and American Heart Challenge in school districts with high level health education and fundraising potential.
  • Prospects, pitches and secures corporate sponsorships from companies and healthcare organizations, and activates benefit plans with those sponsors.
  • Responsible for Kids Heart Challenge event volunteer and participant recruitment and engagement, training and management activities to reach income goals.
  • Key internal collaborator with accounts and volunteers across market and Board of Directors and opportunities to join national leadership task-force, around emerging strategies.
  • Accurate data entry into relevant databases to ensure reporting and campaign progress are tracked in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that divisions and activities function within the parameters of American Heart Association and Eastern State regional policies.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree. Related experience may be substituted as follows: 1 years experience equates to 1 full time year of higher education.
  • Must have at least 4 years of experience in outside sales or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity. This experience may also count towards satisfying this position's educational requirement.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in a management capacity. This experience may occur within the 4 year related experience requirement. Experience gained through direct internal work on American Heart Association projects/priorities may substitute for this requirement and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Knowledge of community organization, sales, fundraising, and marketing principles, practices, techniques, and trends.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation, and training. Skill in written communications to include clear and concise narrative reports, evaluations and similar narrative pieces.
  • Ability to do daily travel up to 75% and overnight travel up to 25%.
  • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain a rigorous, goal-oriented management approach.
  • Validated background and willingness to work in atmosphere requiring flexibility and change.
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to maintain valid driver's license and auto insurance.
  • Must have at least basic knowledge and skill with Microsoft Office 2016 used for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets. Advanced knowledge and skill with these programs is preferred. These skills are subject to testing.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
