The Senior Analyst, Global Underwriting and Claims Risk and Quality Assurance reports into the Global Director and will play a significant role in supporting the enterprise in its monitoring and mitigation strategies for the insurance, reinsurance, fronting and insurance linked securities divisions of Markel Corporation. The role will support the Director in solving and managing a wide variety of complex underwriting issues and by finding creative cost effective solutions that will provide the enterprise with better underwriting oversight. This position is focused on risk prevention and detection by enhancing existing procedures to support risk mitigation throughout the organization. In addition, the role will be responsible for facilitating underwriting and claims audits and using data analytics to highlight and communicate areas of opportunity and risk to the business.

Job Responsibilities

  • Promote, cultivate and develop oversight and Risk Management best practices across our insurance and reinsurance divisions worldwide.
  • Facilitate the underwriting and claims audit processes process through Sentry, our system, and further enhance reporting.
  • Identify issues, deviations, and root causes; and effectively communicate with Markel underwriters, claims examiners and leadership.
  • Seek to develop effective working relationships, cultivate networks, create opportunities to develop relationships across the departments / divisions to achieve group and organizational goals.
  • Identifies and promotes assurance objectives which align with the stated strategic goals of the organization.
  • Open to continued evolution and flexibility to promote continued growth and change in role and responsibilities. Striving for a better way to safeguard Markel’s assets.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

Certification

  • Industry designations are a plus (CIA, CPCU, ARM, CRM, INS, IEA, AIC, ARM)

Work Experience
A combination of 5+ years of underwriting or claims, commercial insurance and data analysis experience

Skill Sets

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstration of a highly collaborative work style
  • High degree of creativity and self-motivated in striving for continued evolution and automation
  • Strong organization and time management skills
