Refugee Housing Stability Specialist

CLASSIFICATION:

Regular, Full-time (37.5 hours per week), Hourly, Non-Exempt Status

If you enjoy networking and building relationships with property managers to help provide stable housing options for Afghan families who are new to the US - this position is for you! The Refugee Housing Stability Specialist is responsible for collaborating with the Housing Navigators in supporting clients who need property management mediation to lower housing costs and work with both parties to develop plans and pathways to stable housing. When pathways reach a roadblock, this role will help identify alternative housing options for Navigators to transition their clients to. In addition, this role will work closely with partner organizations to provide direct rental support subsidies while the navigators work with the clients to stabilize their housing.


WAGES AND BENEFITS

SCHEDULE: The majority of this position is conducted 8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday; however, there may be some light evening and weekends. CAPI is currently operating with a hybrid work schedule of 4 days per week in the office and 1 day work from home. New staff are expected to work 5 days per week in the office until they complete their initial training and receive approval from their supervisor.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Property Management Relations 40%*
    • Network with Property Management entities to establish report and pathways for Afghan families to rent at affordable rates
    • Work with Property Management entities to develop plans, goals, and outcomes for families leading to Housing Stability and helping alleviate entities concerns
    • Keep records of Property Management entities willing and unwilling to work with this process and leverage those in future cases
    • Work with Property Management entities to resolve rental unit issues and problems to help stabilize housing situation (including maintenance and contractual issues)
    • Conduct rental unit searches to identify potential housing options and contact management to establish relationships and potential pathways for families

  • Client and Internal Team Coordination 30%*
    • Work with navigators to develop a list of clients and resources to prioritize and plan Housing Stability efforts
    • Attend team meetings and team collaboration sessions to ensure comprehensive client housing services
    • Work with team to develop best practices and strategic plans for client support and grant outcomes
    • Work with navigators in collaboratively conducting housing education sessions for clients
    • Work with navigators to assist clients with property viewing and move

  • External Partnership Coordination 20%*
    • Coordinate with external agencies partnered with this initiative to help facilitate smooth payment of direct rental subsidies to families in need of rent support
    • Coordinate and collaborate with other Housing Stability programs and agencies to find new pathways for families
    • Attending regular coordination meetings with partners to maintain closely connected and coordinated efforts

  • Civic Engagement/Public Policy* 5%
    • Support CAPI's agency-wide Civic Engagement and Public Policy values and initiatives and incorporate civic engagement and Public Policy into routine case management work
    • Participate in voter registration and pledge drives, educational/outreach initiatives, GOTV activities and Public Policy initiatives

  • Other Duties as Assigned* 5%

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • 4-year degree in a related field or 2 years of related experience
  • At least 2 years of non-profit experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience working with diverse communities; preferred familiarity with resettlement processes
  • Ability to establish solid partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and conduct effective outreach independently
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and knowledge of cultural competence; preferred understanding of Afghan culture and customs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Fluency in English; preferred fluency in either (or both) Pashto & Dari
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues, and demonstrate sound judgement in all interactions
  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of professionalism in communication, attitude, and teamwork with CAPI's clients, staff, and management
  • Ability to produce high quality work, with attention to detail and consistent follow through
  • Ability to exercise sound and rational judgement when assisting all visitors and answering questions
  • Able to work effectively in a mission-driven agency whose clients and staff exhibit significant diversity with respect to race, ethnicity, gender orientation, socio-economic status, nationality, and religion
  • Ability and skills to manage time effectively, including prioritizing work and meeting deadlines
  • Knowledge and Ability to use & adapt to different technology tools, including MS Office programs and databases
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

Licenses and/or Certifications

  • Valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet CAPI's driving record requirements.
