Temporary Reference and Instruction Librarian

We're looking for a customer-oriented temporary full-time Research and Instruction Librarian within the New Jersey College and University Library System. The position requires working onsite to provide Reference and research assistance, teach information literacy, troubleshoot access problems, and work on special projects and other duties as assigned. It consists of thirty-five (35) hours per week: Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5:00 pm.

Salary/Hourly Rate: $34.28

Assignment Length: January 2nd, 2024 to June 28th, 2024

Job Responsibilities:

• Provides Reference and research support at the Research Help Desk.
• Provides friendly and courteous assistance to library patrons in person, by email, through live chat, and by phone.
• Develops Reference and Instructional materials such as LibGuides and knowledge base articles.
• Teaches information literacy skills in all disciplines covered by the university in small groups and large classroom environments.
• Performs other related duties as assigned, including special projects.
• Provides collection development activities.
• Works cooperatively with other library staff.
• Directs student assistant employees as needed. 

Required Qualifications:

• Previous experience working in an academic library with teaching and presentation skills.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Computer skills with searching experience, including STEM databases and online resources.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to lift (up to 50 pounds) and bend.
• Detail-oriented, accurate, and organized.
• Able to work independently, be a team player, and work cooperatively with coworkers.

Education Requirements:

• Master’s degree enrollment or completion (MLS, MLIS).
