Job description

Company Overview

Gray Haven seeks to provide a safe and healing environment for people with serious mental illness who have become involved with the criminal justice system and are reentering the community from incarceration, diversion, parole or probation. The program includes a licensed board and care facility with co-located medical clinic and supportive housing for 6 full-time residential treatment and Independent Living Skills training for residents. We anticipate our expansion project to add 4 more residents to the Residence in the late fall of 2024, and expand to 20 after construction is completed in the Spring of 2025.

Position Description

The Recovery Coach reports to the Program Director & is responsible for providing services and supports to Gray Haven residents while on shift. This includes promoting the health, well-being, and safety of the clients; maintaining regular communication with the Shift Lead; and abiding by rules and regulations mandated by the program, licensing, and other state agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement the services and activities planned during each shift.
  • Monitor the behavior and appearance of all residents; communicate any changes or concerns to the Program Director.
  • Observe the self-administration of medication and complete all required documentation.
  • Drive agency vehicles to destinations, as required & comply with vehicle policy at all times.
  • Perform all job functions in cooperation with supervisors, staff, and other providers involved in the service effort, including sharing information regarding all important interventions.
  • Participate in promoting a safe, healthy, and clean working environment at all times consistent with applicable laws, industry standards and the agency’s own Health & Safety Program.
  • Submit accurate time sheets and absence reports to the Program Director in a timely manner.
  • Actively nurture and advance the cooperative, harmonious and teamwork-oriented environment that Gray Haven strives to promote within the workplace.
  • Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings, as assigned.
  • Attend and complete training as assigned and in a timely manner.
  • Support kitchen staff with meal preparation as needed.
  • Perform other related duties, responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Must be passionate about Gray Haven’s mission.
  • At least two years of experience working with people with mental health needs and dual diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, Title IX and XXII regulations, and best practices for serving consumers with forensic mental health needs is preferred.
  • Great computer skills, knowledge of Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc…)
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, a professional demeanor and to represent the organization in a positive manner at all times.
  • Must demonstrate an acceptable level of maturity, good judgment, and emotional stability.
  • Must be a dynamic self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently on special projects.

  • Safety and Security: Actively promote and personally observe safety and security procedures and use equipment and materials properly.

Other Requirements

  • A minimum age of 21 and possession of a valid first aid card.
  • Valid CA Driver’s License along with proof of valid insurance and registration.
  • Candidates must successfully pass all pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to background check, standard physical, etc.

The Recovery Coach predominantly operates within indoor environments, although some tasks may require outdoor engagement. The role may entail occasional lifting of objects weighing 50 lbs. or more, along with intermittent actions such as bending, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, reaching, crouching, balancing, twisting, kneeling and even running. The position also involves activities like keying/fingering, grasping, standing and sitting. Effective auditory and verbal communication as well as repetitive hand and finger movements are essential components of this role.

  • 12 hour shift
  • Night shift
  • Weekends as needed

License/Certification:

  • First Aid Certification (Preferred)
