Schedule: Saturday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Pay: $17.53 per hour
Location: Main Campus, 3700 “O” Street, Washington, DC
Job Overview
The Recycling Laborer assists in the operation of the campus-wide, multi-material Recycling Program, including lifting and emptying heavy recycling containers, processing materials and cleaning and disinfecting recycling vehicles, collection areas, and collection containers.
As well, they ensure that all recycling areas are clean, fully functional and operational.
Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation
The Recycling Laborer reports directly to the Supervisor of Recycling and Waste Management, along with three Heavy Vehicle Operators and three Recycling Laborers.
They primarily work with employees in the Recycling and Waste Management area and Facilities Management, but as work is being performed, may interact with students, faculty, staff and visitors as they traverse the campus. It is important that the Recycling Laborer works cooperatively with fellow employees to assure work is completed on time and according to specified plans.
This position has been designated as On-Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications

• Completion of 10th grade of High School
• 2 years of experience performing general or labor work directly related to Recycling and solid Waste Management
• A valid driver's permit from Maryland, District of Columbia or Virginia is required.
• Good verbal communication skills
• Highly motivated, able to work independently, and concerned with Recycling and environmental issues

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification: This position may require the incumbent to operate University commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10K+ (e.g., tow trucks, box trucks, trash trucks, buses, lifts, etc.). As such, the incumbent must possess a medical card and/or certificate issued by the Department of Transportation (DOT), which is issued by a licensed “medical examiner,” after completion of a DOT physical examination as defined in GU Policy 1017 and DOT Regulations 391.11 (4) - Medical Card/Certificate and 390.5 (1) - Commercial Motor Vehicles (10K+) Definitions (http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov).
