Recruitment Counselor
(Student Services Professional III)

Compensation and Benefits


Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,025 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,025 - $7,159 per month.

  • This is a full-time, probationary, exempt position

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the lead direction of the Assistant Director of Admissions and Recruitment (AR), the Recruitment Counselor’s primary responsibility is to execute the recruitment strategies and provide services in the areas of counseling, admission advising, follow-up, coordination of various recruitment events, delivery of presentations as well as other recruitment activities targeted at high school and community college students to meet the FTE goals of the university. The Recruitment Counselor also serves as the primary liaison to assigned Academic Colleges, designing, coordinating, and executing recruitment strategies for the college.


Key Qualifications

  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with ability to develop and facilitate workshops and presentations, and prepare detailed written reports and correspondence.
  • Research, compile and analyze data to develop valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Advise students individually and in groups on complex student‑related matters and determine appropriate courses of action.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal appropriately with confidential information and exercise good judgment on sensitive matters.
  • Determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature.
  • Collaborate with other campus coordinators, staff and faculty regarding student advising, support services, recruitment events and outreach activities, and to develop policies and services.

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution.
  • Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience.
    • A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
    • A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience.
