About the job:

The Recreation Therapy Assistantis responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of activities for participants tailored to the needs and limitations of frail elderly.  Recreational Therapy Assistant (RTA) will assist therapist with the implementation of recreational treatment and/or intervention plans, including the use of activity adaptations and assistive devices and technology. Assists participants with non-skilled Activities of Daily Living (ADL).  Provides one-on-one assistance with participants.  

Pay: $17.00-$20.16/Hour

Monday-Friday 9:00 AM-4:00 PM

Required Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • High school diploma or equivalent and 2 year degree
  • Must be a Licensed Recreational Therapy Assistant (LRTA) and meet the education, supervised clinical experience, and other requirements, including practice in accordance with professional standards of practice and codes of ethics, of the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy Licensure (NC BRTL).
  • Must have one year’s experience working with the frail or elderly population
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and have means of transportation
  • Knowledge of how to use and maintain materials and equipment of need to provide recreational activities. Knowledge of activity analysis, activity modifications, and adaptive and assistive devices/techniques/technology.

Essentials: 

  • Leads and/or assists in large groups, small groups 1:1’s and individual activities (exercise, arts and crafts, games, current events, sensory, etc.).

 

  • Assists Recreation Therapist in assessing and reassessing participants’ functional status in relationship to participation in recreational activities.

 

  • Assists with the development and implementation of recreational interventions and activities that meet the interests, needs and capabilities of participants under the supervision of Recreation Therapist. Collaborates and assists the Recreational Therapist in the development of patient/client treatment goals and treatment interventions. Assists the recreational therapist to identify activity modifications, adaptations and assistive devices that may be necessary to implement the treatment plan

 

  • Observes patient/client response to treatment interventions/activities and reports behavioral observations to the recreational therapist so the treatment plan can be

continued, modified or discontinued as necessary.

 

  • Completes assigned activity charting and reporting. Documents the effects of the treatment intervention to provide the Recreational Therapist with the information needed for evaluation of the intervention.

 

  • Collaborates with the recreational therapist and members of the interdisciplinary team (IDT), participant, family or significant others during the implementation of the treatment intervention and reports all adverse reactions and observations of patient response and behaviors to the recreational therapist and IDT.

 

  • Assists in the organizing of special events, outings as assigned.
