The Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) is responsible for providing Recovery Support, case management and care coordination services to clients of all ages who require assistance due to mental illness, substance use or developmental disabilities, in gaining access to services as well as social, educational, vocational, recreational, housing, public income entitlements, and other community services required for the person to function in the community. The RSS shall provide Recovery Support services, as appropriate, serve as an advocate; provide information and support for consumers in emergency, outpatient and walk-in settings. In addition, with the extension of the Title XX grant and the DeStig grant the RSS will help to increase wellness, recovery and trauma education through the state of Illinois, in targeted communities, and at HRC throughout the duration of the grants. The RSS will when applicable promote or educate on the components of Wellness and Recovery Action Planning (WRAP), Whole Health Action Management (WHAM), Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). The RSS will complete other duties as assigned as related to care coordination services or Title XX grant deliverables and DeStig deliverables.
HOURS: 40 hours per week
BASIC DUTIES:
1. Assist consumers in accessing benefits such as SSDI/SSI, Medicaid, SNAP, etc.
2. Willingness to self-disclose personal experience as a consumer of mental health services, substance use services and/or dual diagnosis services.
3. Participate in statewide events/summits/trainings/activities that support the education/development/promotion of WHAM, WRAP, MHFA, and Recovery Support and Consumer Provider Services
4. Commitment and ability to practice within the domains and ethics of the CRSS (certified Recovery Support Specialist) and/or CPRS (Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist).
5. Communicate with members of the outpatient team when appropriate and needed for appropriate consumer care
6. Support for choice by the persons receiving services (individuals)
7. Educate individuals on wellness and Recovery Supports
8. Educate individuals on how to make treatment work for them and their choices in the recovery process
9. Advocate for individuals using professionalism and non-adversarial approaches
10. Be aware of and take appropriate action with high-risk indicators/suicidal and homicidal ideations
11. Willingness, ability, and commitment to serving as a role model for recovery
12. Travel required
13. Facilitate group and individual sessions
14. Avoid dual relationships when possible and appropriate for the best interest of the individuals
15. Utilize Relias learning when applicable and for annual training
16. Comply with rule 132, SUPR, collaborative and CARF documentation
17. Awareness of recovery planning needs and development
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma and/or GED or higher education.
DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Current MHP (Mental Health Professional) or willing to obtain the qualifications/requirements needed to become an MHP.
2. Ability to relate to persons of various ages, specifically children ages 5-18 and with a variety of presenting problems
3. Computer knowledge or experience
4. Carelogic or other Electronic Health Record experience
5. Detail oriented
6. Ability to greet public and display professionalism
7. Ability to relate to persons with chronic mental illness.
8. Knowledge of community resources and processes to access services.
9. Ability to coordinate client services with inpatient
12. Ability to work independently and with good organizational skills
13. Demonstrated ability to work positively with consumers, staff, families, and the community;
14. Driver’s license and good driving record;
