Description:

The Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) at New Directions (NDARS) is responsible for peer addiction Recovery Support work. This person will have direct experience in recovery, possess the ability to work well in a team environment and are comfortable working with individuals in crisis situations. This role will involve working closely with individuals in early recovery from Substance Use Disorders and their families after a person experiences a substance use recurrence. You will provide consistent courteous and friendly service to community members by performing participant follow up and outcome data collection. You are responsible to make regular follow up calls and take hotline calls. This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements:

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  1. Works with participants in early recovery and provides consistent, courteous and friendly support.
  2. Assess participant needs and connect participants to community resources based on their needs/goals. Provide resources navigation support.
  3. Mentor and provide support gained from personal experience and recovery programs.
  4. Arrange transportation logistics for participants seeking treatment.
  5. Communication via phone and email as needed, setup and/or respond to calendar invites.
  6. Attend staff meetings on a weekly basis.
  7. Cooperate as a team member within the NDARS staff by performing duties essential to the achievement of effective operations.
  8. Facilitate Family Support Groups
  9. May be called upon to run special groups as needed (i.e. resume creation, life skills, team building, outreach, etc.)
  10. Accurately submit data collection documentation and/or reports.
  11. Implement and be knowledgeable of company policies and procedures.
  12. Perform related work as required or upon request of the Community Navigator Team Lead or management.

Note: The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role and overall business objectives of the organization.


Training, Skills, Knowledge and/or Experience:

Required:

  • 18 Years of age or older
  • Have a valid driver's license, vehicle insurance and a clean driving record.
  • Familiar with the 12 step recovery method and/or 12 step facilitation therapy.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management and the community.
  • Establish and maintain effective remote working habits.
  • Maintain a reliable level of attendance.
  • Maintain a positive attitude with people from all backgrounds and abilities.
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Submit to and pass a background check.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office / Google Suite or related software.

Preferred:

  • Personal experience in a substance use disorder recovery program.
  • Familiar with recovery modalities alternative to 12 step.
  • Prior recovery coaching experience.
  • Previous work experience in a public service setting.
  • Spanish fluency is a plus.

Education:

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:

Training, certifications or degree in substance use disorders or related fields a huge plus.

Scheduling:

The role requires someone with a flexible schedule with the ability to work remotely. Some hours are on demand as an on-call role and some are flexible set hours. Must be comfortable being on call from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm to meet community needs.
