Elementary Public School Tutor - Denver, CO
Opportunity
We are seeking dedicated tutors to provide onsite Reading Tutoring sessions for elementary students kindergarten through third grade (K-3) students at Stedman Elementary School located at 2940 Dexter St, Denver, CO 80207. The tutors will support students three days a week, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 9:15 am - 4:00 pm. They will receive training on the iSPIRE reading reading curriculum and will work with students in small groups (5:1) to implement the program. The tutoring placement will run from April 21, 2024 through May 16, 2024
Key Responsibilities
- Instructional Leadership:
- Provide small group instruction and one-on-one tutoring to support student learning gains.
- Collaborate with teachers and school leaders to develop a data-driven mission and vision for school improvement.
- Be a compassionate mentor, fostering high expectations for students and addressing their academic and personal needs.
- Learning and Professional Development:
- Continuously improve your teaching effectiveness through reflection and professional development opportunities.
- Ensure equitable access to effective support, challenging learning opportunities, and educational resources.
- Communicate your work effectively to teachers and staff, supporting their efforts in the classroom.
- School Culture:
- Foster a professional culture of engagement and commitment to the education of the whole child.
- Uphold norms of respect, caring, learning, and safety while promoting a culturally responsive environment.
- Encourage staff-to-student relationships and promote student voice, agency, and leadership.
- Management:
- Collaborate with school staff to ensure smooth student progression through their academic journey.
- Build positive relationships with students, staff, and other stakeholders to impact school operations.
- Promote staff wellness best practices, including work-life balance.
Qualifications
- Ability to commit to working 20-30 hours at the assigned school site.
- Willingness to participate in 1-2 hours of monthly professional development and training.
- Dedication to supporting academic and personal success, particularly among minority and low-income students.
- Passion for educational equity and social justice.
- Availability to serve as an Education Champion during relevant months of the school year.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive pay rate of $20/hr with the opportunity to earn $22/hr* with a completion bonus.
- Education Champions are not paid during school breaks (Winter Break, Spring Break, etc.).
- Education Champions will be required to attend one virtual 30-minute event per quarter and complete 5 minutes of asynchronous training per week.
