Reading Tutor

The Huntington Learning Center of Fairfax (Brightminds Inc) has partnered with Washington DC public schools to provide Reading Tutoring to students going into 4th-8th grade. We are working specifically at Friendship SE Elementary and Middle Schools at 645 Milwaukee Place SE. Tutoring sessions are from 4:00 PM-5:30 PM every Monday and Wednesday, for a total of 3 hours of instruction per week. Programs run for 10 weeks, then we take 1-2 week break before another 10-week program begins. Our next program is scheduled to start on 1/17/2024. We have teacher virtual trainings schedules over the next 2 weeks.
This program is being funded by a grant to provide HIT (High Impact Tutoring) to students in an effort to recover from learning loss during the pandemic. Teachers will use proven, individualized academic programs working with students with up to a 4:1 ratio. The goal of the program is to help students bring their foundational academic skills up to grade level by starting at the level so they can work confidently at school.
Teachers are expected to engage and interact with their students; we are looking for individuals in the community who see the importance of reading fluency and comprehension skills and are passionate about helping our students become better students. We know that this will make our students more confident and provide the foundation they will need to be successful in all of their classes moving forward. We have a proven, individualized academic program for every student based on an academic evaluation. There is no prep, planning or looking for curriculum. You will be paid for simply teaching the assigned program to your assigned students, each at their own pace. The program director will also make adjustments to each program based on your input. Teachers always have the option to adjust their availability as needed.
If you have a degree, and are available to come work with students at Friendship SE during these times, we have immediate openings to start working with you own group of up to 4 students as a primary teacher. You would work in a Friendship classroom with a Friendship teacher who teaches at the school. You would have your own group of students for each 10-week program.
