Fremont School District 79 is seeking a Reading Specialist for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Reading Specialist Endorsement
Four years of English Language Arts classroom teaching experience (grades PreK-8) preferred
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Reading Specialist will primarily focus on two key areas, 1) intervention services and 2) reading professional development.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct reading intervention services to identified students who qualify for Tier II and Tier III services on the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) model.
- Support teachers in providing effective classroom instructional interventions to best support student needs in the general classroom setting, promoting inclusion.
- Establish a positive classroom environment conducive to effective instruction and learning.
- Utilize effective assessment and progress monitoring strategies.
- Monitor student entry and exit criteria and ensure students are placed in the appropriate level of services.
- Participate in team reviews concerning academic progress of low performing/at-risk students.
- Foster systems of effective communication with students, staff, and parents regarding intervention services.
- Demonstrate strong data analysis skills and develop teacher capacity to collect and analyze multiple sources of data to improve student learning.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to continue growing as an instructional leader.
- Facilitate reading professional development opportunities for staff.
- Model and/or co-teach lessons with teachers to foster effective and independent teacher utilization of new skills and resources.
- Promote the effective integration of the materials available to the ELA teachers.
- Collaborate and co-facilitate with the building and district-level staff to effectively promote the growth and achievement of all students.
- Possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to engage in positive relationships with administrators, staff, parents, students, and the community.
- Model research-based and innovative instructional practices.
- Demonstrate knowledge and ability to support educator/adult learning.
- Pursue and promote equitable and inclusive learning opportunities, with a focus on closing achievement gaps and meeting the needs of all students.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by State/Federal law and District policy.
- Use site, District, and State assessment data to drive instruction and place students in appropriate instructional and/or intervention programs.
- Participate in school-wide events, scheduled meetings, and conferences with guardians.
- Participate in school and District initiatives.
- Maintain professional competence through participation in District provided professional development sessions and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
