Job Title: Reader for Executive Director of CIDNY
Number of Positions: One
Location of Position: Manhattan Office 1010 Avenue of the Americas, Suite 301, NY, NY 10018
Salary: $20 per hour
Type of Position: Part-time
Number of Hours: Eight to fourteen hours per week
Job Requirements:
On or before the date of submitting an application for this position, the applicant must fulfill the following job requirements:
- The applicant must be willing to read and/or edit written documents for the Executive Director of CIDNY.
- The applicant must be comfortable with reading out loud and be able to clearly articulate the English language.
- The applicant must have some prior experience working with persons with disabilities and specifically, the applicant must be comfortable with working with a person who is totally blind.
- The applicant must have some research experience and be willing to conduct internet and/or library databank research to assist the Executive Director of CIDNY.
- The applicant must have good oral and written communication skills.
- The applicant must be able to use the Microsoft computer software package specifically, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
- The applicant must have a high school diploma and have some college credits towards an associate degree and/or a bachelor’s degree.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- As a Reader to the Executive Director of CIDNY, you will be responsible to read and review all written documents to the Executive Director. This might include but is not limited to mail, electronic MS Word documents, PDF scanned documents, hard-copy journal articles, books, etc.
- You will assist the Executive Director of CIDNY with editing electronic documents prepared by the Executive Director with visual presentation of the prepared electronic document. This means that as a reader, you will review the document for the correct use of fonts, bolding, headings, color, etc.
- You will assist the Executive Director of CIDNY with conducting independent research utilizing the internet and library’s databases for specific topics associated with people with disabilities. The Executive Director will provide you with specific research assignments that you will need to complete in a timely manner.
- You will assist the Executive Director of CIDNY with completing any hard-copy forms if needed.
- You will assist the Executive Director of CIDNY with navigating through electronic programs and websites that are not accessible to a screen reader called JAWS for Windows.
- You will assist the Executive Director of CIDNY with making copies for scheduled presentations if needed.
- You will assist the Executive Director of CIDNY with making copies of checks and financial documents and record these transactions into an Excel spreadsheet.
- You will assist the Executive Director of CIDNY with taking minutes at all CIDNY board meetings.
- You must report to your scheduled reading sessions, as the Executive Director of CIDNY is depending on the reader for visual reading assistance.
- You will maintain strict confidentiality for both written and verbal formats of communication.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director of CIDNY.
