Location Description
Post Consumer Brands corporate headquarters in Lakeville, Minn. is about 20 miles south of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Lakeville has all the benefits of smaller town living with access to everything a large metropolitan area has to offer. Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support the Pet Nutritional Sciences at Post Pet Brands. As part of the Pet R&D team, this individual will be responsible for ensuring the best nutrition for Dog and Cat Food (Wet and Dry) and treat products initiatives. The Scientist will work cross-functionally to drive nutritional rigor across the brands which supports the success of new projects across a wide variety of project types (innovation, cost out, renovation, etc.). The Scientist will provide nutritional support to product development, marketing, and regulatory affairs through nutritional design and technical briefs to support product claims. The individual will also have the responsibility to support Quality and Food Safety, ensuring compliance and animal health. They will also play a critical role in problem solving and root cause analysis for driving continuous improvement.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Develops, updates, and deploys technical content on nutrition-based strategies, by species and/or specific nutrient targets, functional needs, and claims support, within the Pet R&D and cross-functionally.
  • Provide general nutrition guidelines and performance success criteria for innovation, product development and product maintenance.
  • Partners with Pet R&D to develop continuous ingredient surveillance program, analyzes results and participates in subsequent nutrient database updates and implications to active formulations.
  • Provide support to manufacturing and Quality & Food Safety to ensure nutritional compliance and food safety.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with Pet cross-functional partners, influence & guide stakeholders, anticipate challenges, and proactively plan to address them.
  • Determine priorities against the business and Pet R&D objectives.

Qualifications
Requirements

  • Mastery of companion animal nutrition.
  • Solid understanding of ingredient nutritional value and nutrient bioavailability, and the complex interactions that influence it (e.g. physiology, formulation, manufacturing processes).
  • Fundamental knowledge in food science and processing technologies.
  • Proficiency in commercial pet food formulation software(s).
  • Familiarity with Federal, State and Local Pet Food Regulations.
  • Ability to multi-task and leverage resources across multiple projects or assignments.
  • Strong collaboration skills and experience partnering internally and externally.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, complex ideas to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive in a changing and fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to embrace changing business priorities and ambiguity.
  • Ability to influence and lead others without direct guidance.
  • Job location is in Lakeville MN. Up to 25% Travel may be required.

Education
  • PHD or M.Sc. in Animal Nutrition or related field
  • Plus 4 years industry experience
