PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
- Researches and locates new raw materials to domesticate a Japan-made product.
- Modifies existing products to meet customer specifications.
- Makes new products and test to meet customer specifications if no existing products will meet expectations.
- Seeks new sourcing for new and less expensive materials to incorporate into formulation.
- Modifies current products related to formulation changes.
- Evaluates competitor samples.
- Provides a variety of testing for sales staff on products currently being sold to a customer.
- Evaluates existing products for specific customer applications.
- Takes customer phone calls assisting them with recommended products, technical questions, problems and issues with products, etc.
- Travels to customer sites as needed to assist with technical problem solving, technical education on products, etc.
GENERAL
- Fields technical questions for sales department regarding performance issues of adhesives, etc.
- Plans, coordinates and prepares both routine and special requested reports, surveys, research information, and presentations related to departmental work activities.
- Writes technical reports on the finding of tests, new raw materials evaluations, and summaries of new product formulations.
- Writes technical data sheets for the general properties of TBIT products, both new and existing.
- Coordinates a variety of information with other staff members in other departments, other facilities and other subsidiaries in establishing and carrying out responsibilities.
- Collects, interprets, evaluates and summarizes information for the purpose of reporting to senior management to assist with the decision-making process.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- 1-3 years' experience as Chemist in an automotive environment preferred.
- Hands on experience with the following tests: Viscosity, specific gravity, heating residue, lap shear strength, tensile strength, elongation, breakloose torque, prevailing torque, oil resistance test, heat aging, heat cycle, characterization for chemicals.
- Hands on experience with the following equipment: Viscometer, tensile tester, torque wrench, heat chamber, heat cycle over, TG, DSC, FTIR, etc.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee is regularly required to walk, talk or hear. Travel by car or plane occurs from occasionally to often. The employee is regularly required to walk, talk or hear. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is typically performed inside an office or in a lab. Exposure to various chemicals occurs frequently.
