JOB SUMMARY:
The R&D Automation Engineer is responsible for developing control systems for robotic and automation prototypes including control panel design and software development. The R&D Automation Engineer will be required to create complete control panel fabrication and assembly data packages based on prototype functional requirements including: hardware selection, electrical schematics, panel layouts, field wiring diagrams, and network layouts. The R&D Automation Engineer will also be required to develop control panel RFQ documents; review and evaluate suppliers’ proposals, participate in supplier selection and interface with suppliers to ensure delivery as specified. Working with the prototype team the R&D Automation Engineer will develop control software that will demonstrate complete system functionality. The R&D Automation Engineer will remain involved throughout the project to provide support on technical issues, scope management, system commissioning / start-up, troubleshooting and testing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work collaboratively under the guidance of the “team lead” for the following tasks:
- Responsible for the electrical design of control panels for research and development projects using ACAD Electrical
- Develop and implementation “Human Machine Interface” (HMI) using commercially available products such as Wonderware, Indusoft, Allen Bradley (Panel View) or Ignition
- Develop and implement machine control software based on Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens and Codesys control platforms
- Participate in commissioning of complex automated prototype systems
- Develop detailed documentation for the transition of R&D products to other departments
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of customers’ operations and specifications
- Communicate and collaborate with R&D team members to ensure all aspects of project goals are achieved
- Implement communications networks for integration of control system components.
- Must be a detailed self-starter able to produce next generation products with minimal guidance
- Understand complex systems and processes in high-level of detail
- Ability to work against deadlines; focus and perform work accurately while within budget and schedule
- Intermediate/Advanced level experience with Microsoft Office Applications
- Willingness to travel. Typically, 10-15 weeks per year
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
- 2 - 5 years’ experience within an industrial environment
- Experience with AutoCAD
- Knowledge of Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric or Siemens industrial products
- Experience with troubleshooting 460 VAC and 24 VDC control systems using instruments such a multimeters and oscilloscopes
- Linux & Windows Operating Systems experience
- Familiar with Industrial Standards such as UL, ANSI/RIA, CE, etc.
- Experience with C++, JavaScript, and/or Python a plus
- Knowledge of structured text and IEC 61131 programming standards is a plus
- Experience with Robot Programming (Fanuc, Yaskawa, etc) is a plus
