Position Overview
- Raptis Rare Books is currently seeking a Gallery Assistant to join our team and assist with daily business operations.
- The ideal candidate will possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word
- Primary duties will include shipping a high volume of packages
Primary Responsibilities:
Report directly to the Gallery Manager to:
- Manage packing and shipping of a high volume of daily shipments
- Assist with greeting and conversing with a high volume of gallery visitors
- Manage and appropriately direct a high volume of daily phone calls
- Manage and respond to a high volume of daily email inquiries
- Assist with client services and sales requiring the swift preparation of accompanying documentation, sales receipts, and luxury packaging
- Unpack and organize incoming merchandise
- Organization, archival preparation and shelving of new acquisitions requiring strict adherence to standard alphabetical library classification systems
- Daily cleaning duties to maintain gallery organization and cleanliness
- Assist with completion of bi-weekly e-newsletters advertising new acquisitions
- Assistance with editing/proofreading and printing of exhibition documents and rotating gallery display cards/signage
- Create weekly blog posts spotlighting new/relevant inventory and authors
- Complete weekly sales call and individualized email pitch quotas
Qualifications:
Required:
- High attention to detail and excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments and projects with competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to learn and rapidly implement training and detailed business protocols
- Customer service and sales experience
- Polished, professional appearance
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, History, Library Science or a related subject
- Formal coursework, training, or professional experience in Rare Book and/or special collections librarianship
- Training in archival book restoration and preservation
- Experience with Social Media content creation and posting on a variety of platforms
- Experience with Mailchimp, Constant Contact or another e-newsletter platform
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
Availability required:
- Tuesday - Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. (days of the week may vary depending on time of year - Saturdays consistently required)
- Salary commensurate with qualifications and performance
