Job Description

RANGE SAFETY OFFICER

Job Title: Range Safety Officer

Reports to: Store Manager and Range Supervisor

Direct Reports: None

Purpose of job:

Promote and enforce a rigorous standard of safety for both behavior and environment at all times within the Heritage Guild firearms and archery ranges.

Job duties:

Range:

  • Manage all activities related to the firearms and archery ranges per the Heritage Guild Safety Manual and Heritage Guild Policies and Procedures, State and Federal regulations, and OSHA standards, ensuring the effective and safe use of facilities.
  • Ensure that customers and guests understand the reasoning behind the safety rules and practice safe gun handling at all times.
  • Maintain a level of Physical Fitness that would not limit duties performed as an NRA Certified RSO
  • Activities include but are not limited to:
  • Assist customers to understand, select and enroll in an appropriate level of Range Memberships
  • Provide customers with information regarding services such as Firearms Rentals, Training Academy courses, Try-Before-You-Buy Program, private lessons, and Gunsmithing
  • Assist Range Members in the process necessary to use the range according to Heritage Guild Safety Manual, Heritage Guild Policies and Procedures and State and Federal Regulations
  • Lead Indoor Range Orientation classes
  • Manage acquisition, use and return of rental guns.
  • Perform maintenance tasks for the range so that it consistently meets the standards of health and safety according to Heritage Guild Safety Manual, State and Federal Regulations, and OSHA standards

Sales

  • Effectively sell firearms, services and range memberships for retail firearms store and indoor firing range according to Heritage Guild Policies and Procedures and State and Federal Regulations.
  • Utilize thorough and up-to-date product knowledge to assist customers in their inquiries and purchases and in the use of the ranges.
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction by listening to customers’ requests, providing them with further pertinent knowledge and showing them products that would interest them and meet their needs
  • As required, use sound knowledge of POS system in order to assess inventory availability, place special orders/layaways, establish an invoice and conclude a sale
  • As required, complete NICS/PICS and all paperwork related to sales of firearms and ammunition accurately and in accordance with Federal and State regulations and Heritage Guild Policies and Procedures

General

  • Perform general maintenance to ensure the safe, clean and pleasing appearance of retail counters, displays, shelves.
  • Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role.
  • Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adherence to relevant health & safety procedures.
  • Must have flexible schedule and be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Requirements – Education/Experience:

Position of Range Officer requires an individual who is responsible, self-motivated, honest, and dependable and is able to accomplish duties with little supervision while adhering to policy, standards and regulatory requirements.

NJ State Police Employee License

HS Diploma or the equivalent

Experience with and working knowledge of firearms and related products.

Must have NRA RSO Certification.

Computer and Internet skills sufficient to navigate web, gather information, manage proprietary website tasks

Working knowledge of POS system and problem resolution.

Strong interpersonal and communications skills.

Physical demands:

Standing 50%

Lifting up to 75 lbs.

Walking 50%
