Summary
The basic duties of a ranch hand on a working ranch are tending livestock and repairing and cleaning fences, ranch buildings, and equipment. Tending livestock usually includes feeding, birthing, branding, shearing, roping, sorting, pasturing, herding, grooming, and doctoring the ranch's horses, cattle, poultry, pigs, and/or sheep. Having raised healthy animals through this attentive care, ranch hands must also haul the livestock to market or to a shipping terminal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Livestock Care: Feeding and Watering: Ranch hands ensure that animals receive proper nutrition and hydration.
- Health Checks: Regularly examining animals for illnesses, injuries, or other ailments.
- Herding: Moving livestock to pastures for grazing and exercise.
- Work with cattle in our cow-calf operation to include daily care, watering, minerals and practicing stress-free handling.
- Work with sorting of cattle as necessary to tag, castrate, vaccinate, etc..
- Work on farm or ranch structures, such as buildings, fences (electric single line,
- electric portable and barbed wire), as well as road repair and maintenance as needed.
- Cleaning: Regularly cleaning stalls, pens, and other ranch buildings and facilities.
- Equipment Inspection and Maintenance: Inspecting and maintaining ranching equipment, vehicles, and machinery.
- Landscape Maintenance: Tasks like weed control and snowplowing.
Physical Demands:
- Standing, walking, bending, kneeling and/or sitting for long periods of time.
- Climbing ladders to reach ceilings and other high objects.
- Push/Pull/Lift/Moving 50 pounds repeatedly.
- Working with live animals
- Working in adverse weather conditions.
- Walk and stand on uneven surfaces.
