Rail Supervisor
Starting Pay: $21.00 per hour

Basic purpose of position:
  • Provide management oversight to 10 or more associates performing varied functions with specific emphasis on safety.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervising a team of 10 or more associates
  • Ability to Lead in a Union Environment
  • Must be a working Supervisor who leads by example
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable Company, Customer, OSHA, EPA, FRA and DOT regulations by performing key audits and/or relevant inspections. These are included but not limited to AAR, ISA, ISO, etc.
  • Enforcing compliance with safety policies and procedures for Road & Rail and customers.
  • Strong communication and Multi-tasking Skills needed
  • Direct decision making is a must
  • Ensuring that all accidents and injuries are promptly reported and properly documented;
  • Ensuring all incidents are investigated; investigations are properly documented and reported via the company incident reporting system in a timely manner. Ensure appropriate discipline is administered; implement procedures to prevent a recurrence
  • Motivating team members to work in a safe manner and Work as a team
  • Operate various types of motorized equipment

Expectation:
We expect all Supervisors to be committed to a high standard of safety, be willing and able to comply with all safety policies/procedures and willing to report and/or correct all safety violations and potential safety violations. Individuals performing this function must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety and health of himself/herself or others. We expect all supervisors to employ an "out front" approach to management. Supervisors should spend as much time away from their desk and out in the work areas training associates, monitoring work practices, checking the quality of work, and assisting in the actual completion of work. We want our supervisors to truly understand the challenges faced daily by their associates; we believe the best way to gain such an understanding is by spending time working alongside your associates, not afraid to get your hands dirty, talking with your associates.
Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma/GED or Ability.

Experience Requirements:
  • Must possess appropriate aptitude and experience, as determined by the manager; to successfully train and supervise employees to perform tasks employed with their job classification.

Skills, Licenses, Certification, and/or Special Training:
  • Must maintain a valid state driver's license if required to operate company equipment.
  • Meet and maintain all requirements contained in the Conditions of Employment policy.

Physical, Mental & Sensory Requirements:
  • Ability to constantly work in an outdoor environment, exposed to all weather elements, including extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust and noisy conditions;
  • Ability to frequently work in areas with limited lighting;
  • Ability to occasionally ascend or descend ladders, stairs and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Ability to frequently bend at waist and crouch for periods of time up to 1 minute;
  • Ability to constantly use bending, twisting, walking motions on uneven surfaces throughout the entire work shift;
  • Ability to meet the physical, mental & sensory requirements of all positions directly supervised;
  • Ability to occasionally stand for periods of time greater than 2 hours;
  • Must be able to hear work or safety instructions verbally communicated in a normal speaking voice;
  • Must have visual acuity and normal depth perception in both eyes to inspect and drive motor vehicles in limited lighting to include night/dusk and inside plant operations.
  • Ability to verbally communicate telephonically and with two-way radios;
  • Ability to view and change data on a standard computer;
  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple tasks;
  • Must be able to work independently;
  • Must be able to properly wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
