The work varies greatly from day to day and requires a flexible approach to work. This position will provide centralized quality support as required and supports corresponding business units. Work will commence at the Piqua campus.

Job Description
This position is responsible for testing and inspection related activities for tubular and stick electrode arc welding consumables. The work varies greatly from day to day and requires a flexible approach to work. This position will provide centralized quality support as required and supports corresponding business units. Work will commence at the Piqua campus.
Essential Functions
- Perform welding evaluations and record results as required for the product being tested. Evaluations consist of:
- Weldability
- How the product welds in a particular position, arc transfer, arc stability, spatter, slag and all over bead appearance
- Chemistry
- Weld and prepare chemistry pad for spectrometer analysis
- Evaluate chemistry pad on a spectrometer for chemical composition
- Moisture Evaluation
- Denver Free moisture
- Hardness Evaluation
- Rockwell or Brinell hardness
- Diffusible hydrogen testing
- Verification of welding electrode attributes
- Labels, surface conditions, physical attributes, key product measurements, etc...
- Weldability
- Must be willing and able to develop expertise with all arc welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, MCAW, FCAW, and SAW), and with all 'families' of products in the Hobart Brothers portfolio.
- Ability to qualify initial product approval for agency and military products
- Perform in-depth reviews of product performance and meet with engineers to consult on product feedback
- Demo products to customers, distributors and sales force as needed
- Travel to customer sites and provide QC or product development support
- Must be familiar with common welding codes (AWS, ASME, and standard industry practices (welding techniques, welding procedure specifications, pre- and post-heating requirements, etc.)
- Generate Hobart certifications for purchased products and certified orders
- Safety conscience and submission of near miss reports and improvement ideas on a regular basis as a part of a proactive safety and improvement culture
- Perform 5S duties as required
- QC checks performed of product/process attributes weekly
- Maintain adequate inventory levels of welding consumables and lab needs that pertain to your role
Qualifications
- Qualified as a Quality Technician 1
- Excellent attendance record
- Proficient at a minimum of 3 or more welding processes in stick, solid or tubular (Gas shielded, self-shielded, metalcore or sub-arc) in all positions
- Proficient at welding AWS plates, performing testing for customer orders and welding plates for agency testing/audit witnessing
- Maintain a safe, clean, well-organized workspace and perform housekeeping duties as necessary.
- Must be willing to always wear all necessary PPE (glasses, face-shield, welding jackets, gloves, safety boots/shoes, hearing protection, and weld fume masks/filters)
- Possess familiarity with MS Office Products and Microsoft Windows.
- Learn to use the QC software needed to perform the job.
- Enter test results into the computer systems used and ensure the information is accurate and timely
- Prepare base metal using industrial bandsaws, and belt or angle grinders as needed.
- Operate vertical mill as needed to prepare samples
- Work safely with oxy-fuel heating and cutting torches, and plasma torches
- Lift up to 50lbs repeatedly and work on your feet 6+hours per day.
- Eyesight acuity must be 20/20 with correction. Must also be able to have sufficient color vision. Where color vision deficiencies exist, must have sufficient grayscale vision.
- Must be a team player, self-motivated, and able to work independently with a focus on performing the highest quality work
- Willing to assist with other activities in the shop and cross train in the other tasks performed
